Not all outages affect git. Several major downtimes were on the HTTP-side only, and git push/deploy worked for us.

I played with D awhile back and it's a nice language. I'm happy to see it get more attention and collaboration. Maybe one day soon I'll get back into playing with it again.

I didn't realize this, but this is a Persona client library not a Persona server. Not sure why I confused them, but figure it was worth mentioning.

Battle? What battle? This is an all-out flamewar reignited by the inventor of the format (of which he no longer has any control over).

Agreed. This is nothing less than assassination. Terrorists or not they need to be tried and executed (if guilty) as traitors—not assassinated.

It's a pretty important fact. If the creator is trying to justify the adoption of Soylent as a meal replacement by using this fact (obviously not by itself) then they need to be careful to use facts clearly. The phrasing in the pitch blames

As of PHP 5.3, PHP-powered software is safe. Using is_numeric('١٣٦٨') // -> false preg_match('/\d/', '١٣٦٨') // -> no match / false filter_var('١٣٦٨', FILTER_VALIDATE_INT) // -> false Which I'm thankful for. I s

I found the article hard to read because of the word length. It created a strange, artificial rhythm to the text that drove me to distraction.

I use a pseudonym derived from my first name, or whole name. Considering that even when open about my name I've been slammed for my beliefs, for disagreeing with someone (I was polite, so their response shocked me), and so on. I've done dum

This was my first thought as well. If you're discussing Javascript memory management, write the code in Javascript please.

I knew it couldn't be trusted, so I gave a spurious one (xkcd style), and it said that it'd take a majorly long time to guess. (But entropy per character was low, it was all lowercase!)

Animation is suitable in an interface , an icon does not constitute an interface. An icon on a button animating on rollover is just distracting. Now, perhaps if something had to go on in the background it would be relevant (indicating that

This is the Geocities of vector art. I don't see this as a good thing, I see this as a poor compensation for bad interface design. If your icon needs animation for it to make sense to your visitor you're doing it wrong.

Same here. I was considering this as a better alternative to PayPal, but if this is a somewhat consistent experience, it most certainly is not.

And for exactly that reason I've had my credit card reissued as well, even though no fraudulent charges have been made. The risk is just too great for me to feel safe with the old credit card number. Edit: Fixed spelling mistake.

Correct. So far as I know, the way jQuery detach works is to remove it from the DOM and then return the individual element. The element could act as a fragment, because it can contain children, and then be reappended to the DOM.

Technically, even if you render outside the visible area you still incur reflows/repaints. A fragment isn't rendered at all, but lets you build the entire collection as HTML once then do just one reflow/repaint to add the whole fragment to

I have 10.8 at home and 10.6 at work. At work I'm already "feeling the crunch" from folks who think that their app needs Mountain Lion features. I'm not sure what my plans are, but they definitely involve Linux at some point in the future.

I wonder why? Maybe because there haven't been groundbreaking features and stability updates? Maybe because most of us developers look at the increasing restrictions/constrictions each successive release heralds, and think of jumping ship?

Not if your server environment is running Node.js! If you start reading cookies and potentially evaluating their content, this could have a major impact on a Node process. That said, I doubt that you could hack a running Node process with t

I think it's a combination of factors, one of which might be that the lymphatic system requires motion to cause it to flow (it has no "pump"). So "fidgeting" feels good.

Nice how the test is performed on a release candidate version of Rubinius instead of a MRI release such as 1.9.3 or 2.0.0. This is quite a contrived test. Test it against MRI 1.9.3 and 2.0.0 and I'll consider it more accurate.

Ratchet does look nice, but has several deployment dependencies and architectural constraints. Hopefully with nginx now adding the features to be a WebSocket proxy you could get HAProxy out of the way (unless you wanted it).
