All those paragraphs on diversity and inclusion and NOTHING on disability. Wonder when the narrative will shift to diversity that actually prevents jobs and not just positive PR spins…

Yep. Literally every thread about buzzfeed news has multiple posts explaining the different pods of the business, with the caveat that BFNews is serious. An absolutely awful branding decision.

The attractive option of atheism bit. Plenty of other reasons why someone would turn to atheism. Eg the massive occurrence/support/obfuscation of sex abuse in the Catholic Church.

“I suppose for those who consciously or subconsciously know they're guilty of sin, the idea of annihilation is far preferable to facing judgment for their sins in the past, so I can see how atheism would be an attractive option, ultima

Yeah I suspect much of HN is the same. Kind of crazy how dense those meals are. Ice cream too is crazy - one Ben & Jerry’s is like 1600k

But nobody would care about PyTorch if it didn’t have big tech’s blessing, which is the point the above was making.

“You can’t benefit from my awesome work because I’m too comfortable using tools at my job. Did I mention I work for Google? Listen to my music.” Not trying to start a flame war here but… who cares? I’ve published open source while working

The irony analogy I envision is pouring a bottle on a small fire, expecting it to be water, and having it turn out to be gasoline. That is, in an effort to solve problem A, you introduce solution B, but solution B only makes A worse than it

I’ve lived in both Seattle and Detroit and many other cities as well. Painting Seattle as the crime capital of the nation is the most hyperbolic thing I’ve ever read on this site. By miles. Get real lol.

I wonder how things are at Amazon with the recent base salary changes. I imagine if most technical people don’t see a decent salary bump there will be a mass exodus, which is ironic given the increase seems to be in response to attrition.

Basically every fast food combo is over 1500k. Meaning it’s very easy to eat that depending on what it consists of.

House wiring and Shakespeare are completely different subjects. (I’d expect someone professing Shakespeare to avoid such a straw man, but I see your point!) Most people don’t need mathematical statistics, but far more will find meaning/

Americans weren’t the first to do sanctions though? Not even close. In fact, EU countries were asking America to, and are still asking for more.

I can’t stand that. The worst I’ve seen so far: people posting trackbacks, no comments or anything, (the sort of lack of effort that would get flagged even on stack overflow), in a massive slack channel asking for help. I don’t get it.

Just finish the degree and apply to swe jobs. Tailor your resume to mention previous swe experience and as long as you can pass the interviews you’ll be fine.

This 3D space trend is so weird. Nobody wants this. Kids fresh out of college think it’s super cringe, and anyone older won’t bother wasting their time. Talk about throwing their money away.

When you post comments like this, do you think you’re doing a positive? Advocating for another group by posting a dismissive, context-less comment on a positive post? It just comes off as terribly negative and self-centered (moving the focu

I’ve made great choices my entire life and have a 200k salary in my twenties. I’ve been outbid on the last four houses I put offers on, including one that sold for 1.4 million, wait for it, in cash. It’s nice your life has been so easy. Re

I agree with his arguments at a surface level, but I don’t accept that his analysis was rigorous. Especially because his spreadsheet is monolithic and impossible to double-check.
