I'd have to agree. W3Fools seems more like sacrimonious, armchair opinions than anything relevant, hopeful or helpful.

To those who pointed out that a codec is not a part of the browser standards , you are correct. I misspoke. I don't know why since I remember that Mozilla also took this stand a while back. Apologies. :)

You could say the same for any tribe, I think. I like Google but I doubt that they are making decisions for the greater good intentionally, or all the time. I do think that Google, like Apple, try to swing their business model towards a

Not so fast. These licensed technologies you speak of are not embedded within web browser standards. It's a big difference. Flash, for one, is a plugin. It hitches a ride with the browser, it's not part of its standardized, internal worki

Those who seem to be opposed to Google's decision are often in the Apple camp (disclosure: I am in the Apple camp) but are also the same people who wish Flash to die because of it's closed/proprietary nature. So why can't we just envision o

The author has and had the freedom to publish. No one stopped him from publishing the article. The HN crowd don't really respect a conjecture without evidence. That's kinda why I come here.

It's doubtful Gruber will address this, as it would be a bit like hammering a square (logic) into a circle (Apple). My personal fav: If Apple were to switch to WebM and drop H.264 tomorrow, would you then herald it as a great move?

You'll be able to dig up thousands of ridiculous name-claims, I never really doubted that. They'd definitely argue that their trademark isn't ridiculous. Yes, so would Apple and Microsoft. The same logic/idea apply here as well.

It's less ridiculous since, in Ontario, the government runs the only beer store in the province. Additionally, the franchise is not found outside of Ontario. On another note, you didn't mention whether "The Beer Store" was a trademark, just

So, Apple AND Microsoft are both wrong. Trademarking a name like "Food Store" for a grocery store would be ridiculous. Just as "App Store" is equally ridiculous.

Something funny about them being literally a block away from each other. RIM could have walked over to their office and had been like, "hey, can yous guys stop the messenger app. k thx. bai". Google Map: http://bit.ly/ftLWro

You must be mistaken. The fan was installed for Flash. This is why Flash needs to die; so Apple can exclude the fan and make a smaller, lighter notebook.
