Uhh.. have you ever been on Twitter? That's like half the activity there, people dog piling on others based on circumstantial, if any, evidence of perceived slights or wrongdoing. Sure, people _shouldn't_, but they overwhelmingly

This is likely a source of gender disparity in technology. Men tend to be more confident in math and engineering situations, even when they know as much or less than their female peers (the much-reported "gender confidence gap")[1

I see GraphQL as a primarily organizational tool. If, for whatever reason, it is too difficult or costly to get frontend teams and backend teams aligned on the precise functionality of a REST API, GraphQL provides a spec that is almost cert

One strategy that I'm really enjoying at a current gig: have the person writing the front-end write the end-to-end tests (or at least the specs) for the person writing the back-end. Just having a fresh set of eyes on the tests has flus

Yeah, that's really true. If I'm going to have more than one beer, I'll typically switch to something lighter and cleaner for my 2nd. For me it fills the place where a lot of people would put a stout or a Belgian - a really g

My honest opinion is that you should read the npm-cli docs[0], the babel docs[1] and the webpack docs[2]. I think that most tutorials want to skip to the "getting stuff done" bit, and learning these tools with a bit of granularity

Huh, I've actually seen a move against that. A few years ago, the "West-coast style" IPA with enormous amounts of hops was the vogue beer. Today, you're much more likely to see a "New England IPA", "hazy&q

I'm a Bitcoin skeptic, and much of my skepticism is around the practicality of use for day-to-day transactions. Seeing low fees is very encouraging to me - the last I had checked, fees were in the several to many dollars range. Now if

Turbolinks is a full front-end framework. It just makes you manage the DOM diffing yourself by annotating nodes with various data attributes so that they are replaced, persisted and cached properly as navigation occurs. It might be smaller

I think the fundamental problem I find when architecting a new website is that not enough thought has been put into making HTML and CSS sites scale with complexity. It feels like we put all of our eggs in the JS basket - we know how to fact

I love this idea! I feel like there are three paradigms that can cover 100% of software. The first is re-mappable hotkeys. An action bar would be great, but failing that - obvious tooltips of the hotkey on every single action. Also a comple
