There was a class action suit against Sony over preventing PS3 users from installing Linux on their consoles. I think it ended in Sony losing and having to pay reparations. Whether it was a "huge amount" is subject to debate.

Suppose it comes down to psychology. I recall reading long time ago that rounded corners signal safety since they can't cut you so easily so we gravitate towards those shapes.

The most pessimistic theory is that Autodesk has been using the forum posts to train an AI that they intend to put into their products as a paid add-on. No incentive to pay for it if there is free of cost forum available.
