This sort of thing trips me up all the time when I'm collecting screen grabs.

If I didn't know Graham was English, perhaps I would take them at face value - and, indeed, perhaps I should anyway. (And my characterisation was an extreme one!) But: they do just all sound rather coldly backhanded, if you ask me.

I dunno, man. As an English person, to me these tweets sound a lot like he is publicly calling Altman a cunt.

I feel dumber after reading anything by Greenspun. Look at me, actually saying this out loud, wasting all your time with the sort of pointless comment that 5 minutes ago I'd have laughed at the very idea of posting. That's the pow

It sort-of did have fast RAM for video! The chips used could do 2e6 bytes/second, or thereabouts, of which the CPU could demand just ~1e6 (or near enough), at predictable regular intervals. The remainder is entirely free for the video

Some people just don't like to press shift. I moaned at one of my friends about this, years ago, and I got a 1-word reply that really stuck in my mind: > thomas. And there is indeed no law against not pressing shift.

The rule is there to eliminate a 3rd -s noise. James's is fine. Moses's or Jesus's is less so (but you can do it if you want).

And one of the basic problems of programming is that the resulting code is almost certainly wrong. Which is why it's always safest to look at the specific code in question, rather than a description of what it's supposed to do.

OP seems to be saying that the logging code has to be in a macro. But it doesn't: it can be in a function that's called by a macro. It's the difference between having the logging code in a macro: #define LOG(...)\

Good point, yes - if I'm surprised to see this turn of phrase in the NYT, and yet I implicitly assume everybody knows what it means, then maybe I shouldn't have been surprised in the first place.

And the majority of them have been hunted to near extinction, in some cases not even because they're particularly dangerous, just because it's fun to shoot things. One person indeed stands no chance against such a beast, but that&

An alternative way of looking at this: a text editor's main job is to turn keys pressed into characters to be inserted in the document and commands to be executed.

You can type quickly and still think deeply about the solution or whatever. Typing fast won't help when you're stepping through the code one line at a time, and it won't help when you're just sitting there with your eyes

You're less likely to die young as a regular bike rider, and more likely to be killed due to some driver's inattentiveness or impatience. Not the same thing, even if you'd be dead either way.

Hmm, I'm sure the question was originally simply about the data being stored in two separate places? - but, I checked again, and it's very clearly not.

That's because part of it is for you personally (the bit that dictates exactly which program gets run to render the diff), and part of it is for everybody (the bit that specifies the diff-related file type).

Actually a mildly interesting response! - thanks. If we ever meet, £2 is yours. When I was 20, the idea that my eyesight might have become meaningfully worse over time never really occurred to me. Fascinating.
