USING Rails is a breeze. Getting it INSTALLED is the nightmare. One expects a learning curve starting any new language, but I prefer that to start AFTER I've got it installed.

There seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding about what "beginner" means for Rails. I've been a .NET developer for over 10 years. I'm a Rails "beginner". I'd say I'm comfortable with web technology, and yet Rails was an absolute nightma

We (BugHerd) have been toying with intercom for a while. The JS seems to be a quick way to get up and running, but we lean fairly heavily on the API. I'd love to see a bit of a roadmap from them actually. We built custom tagging to hook up

I hate these articles. You write an article which claims to tell me why my the cloud isn't right for MY startup, and then conclude " If no one in your team has the experience, or time, to learn devops, then a PaaS solution like Heroku would

I hate it when people say "I switch my phone on and it starts instantly". No it doesn't. My iphone takes about a minute to start...of course I never switch it off, so it's not a problem. If you never "turn off" Photoshop or Office, they too

I think in terms of "news" I don't think it achieves anything unless the news is inherently local focused. i.e. our own raising of $500k wasn't huge news in the US, but it was a big deal here in Aus. A good example is the current top topic

I think it's pretty straight forward. You're being asked to steal. You don't want to steal. So don't. Sometimes standing up for what you believe to be right is a costly stance to take, or at the very least difficult. If the worst case is th

Like anything, it is what you make of it. I quit my desk job 4.5 years ago. Worked at home up until last month. In that time I've had two kids (eldest now 3) and every day of their lives so far they've had both parents at home with them. I

For all the talk of folks crying out, "bring back adventure games". The simple fact is that many many times more people queue up to buy the latest Call of Duty than will ever buy any adventure game. No different than the movie business. Pub

No surprise really; no publisher will support an adventure game. If it's not an FPS/Action/Sports game no one will touch it. It's the reason Schafer started doing "indie" games in the first place.

The reason why flash is (was) such a horrible horrible thing for the web is only partially because it was a shitty shitty plugin. The real reason is things like this. Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I tried Sunnytrail about 6mths ago. At that time it appeared to be focussed on funnel and cohort analysis (the latter being why I checked it as at the time neither MixPanel nor Kissmetrics had it). So this looks like a bit of a pivot? This

No, actually. These days there are very few non-generic pieces. If we're talking bionicles, then yes. But 99% of pieces in any modern set (branded or otherwise) are generic. The exception is usually things like fighter windshields (if they'

I don't get it. You complain that a 5000 piece lego set is movie themed, when the only thing movie themed are the minifigs and the box it came in. As kids every single lego set we had was built into the "model" precisely once, and then dump
