This is great news. I've had multiple customers request DC locations in South Africa for my monitoring service https://checklyhq.com . Also in general a nice boost for the underserved ZA Saas market.

This is almost literally what I used as an inspiration for the site transaction monitoring part of https://checklyhq.com , as in a browser emulation feeding a monitoring system at regular intervals. Selenium was always a bit of h

People in the market for API monitoring and site transaction monitoring, have a look at https://checklyhq.com . We offer full API monitoring and add Puppeteer-based site transaction monitoring. We aim to be a one-stop-shop, so we

This sounds terrible. I never had any issues with DO. They actually refunded me once when I actually made a mistake. Would love to hear the DO side on this.

Just started using the new Kubernetes offering on Digital Ocean. Still in Beta but works pretty good. If this is a sign for how they will do databases, I'm all ears. Add CI/CD and you have a Heroku competitor.

This whole discussion echoes the DevOps discussion and its definition. What DevOps is and what it means to different people is still hazy and can be twisted into anti-DevOps quite easily.

Your list resonates with me on all points. Sadly, it seems that due to scarcity in the market some engineers are acting like self entitled, spoiled babies. The arrogant/know-it-all streak on topics way outside their area is also pretty

This is hilarious and completely nails a former coworker and engineering manager of mine. Morbidly afraid of paying $10 for any service.

I’m working on https://checklyhq.com , an API monitoring and site transaction monitoring SaaS. The coolest thing about it is discovering the many subtleties in the product offerings in the pretty huge and abundant monitoring mark

I can see my tone being snarky. Sorry for that. But yes, I can draw a ton of parallels between how the change management and RFC process (request for change in this case) is used by more traditional companies and the OP’s post. ITIL is no h

It’s fascinating to see people reinvent some form of ITIL and genuinely think they stumbled on some unique or new way of doing things.

Agreed 100x. I find it very hard to understand why some people talk themselves into thinking they need a distributed container orchestration and management platform, when they don’t have a container orchestration problem: they just want to

I don’t mean this snarky at all, but I’m stunned by the fact that you think a distributed container orchestration platform (which Kubernetes is) is needed to do CI/CD, even when self hosted. It shows I guess how hazy these topics still

This is a great article and I love HAproxy. Even so much that I wrote a REST-like wrapper for it a couple of years ago to turn HAproxy into an API gateway. It touched many of the points in the article. Maybe useful for people in the field

Interesting move by a person already pushing OS software into new modes of sustainability for quite a while. Must say the terms seem fair and it is kind of crazy that large enterprises pay nothing for such a critical part of their infra.

I hope you realize the “non divisiveness” of the Chinese people is a state enforced ruling. Dissidents are jailed or expelled. Just saying looks and initial impressions can be deceiving. I was always reminded of this whenever I saw Ai Weiwe
