For what its worth, I found Rackspace's support to not be worth the extremely high cost. Softlayer is just as good.

I believe most people in the name spinner business use a cached zone file rather than doing live lookups. Perhaps look in to that.

In the past I've had a rough time parsing PHP (for an rdoc-style project), despite PHP having some built in support for parsing itself: http://php.net/manual/en/function.token-get-all.php Perhaps if one attempted to pull the parser out of

I wish either of these services would let users mix via line in or mic in so DJs could free form their tracks and mixing style. This, coupled with a 5-10 minute per room restriction on mix length, could really take the performance possibili

One more aspect: a lot of PPC advertisers do not like to use network ads (i.e., partner sites) because they are perceived as yielding lower quality clicks. Clicks from Google itself are seen to be more likely to monetize for the advertiser.

It seems like their bandwidth costs are a bit high, though, which would mitigate the savings in many cases. Anyone know if they'll play ball and include free bandwidth? This would be a great machine to host Destructoid.com if so.

But contractors are often working for many customers at one time. If one of those customers has a large project, it will affect the time available for the rest of the contractors projects.

Let me know if you go through with this project. A very safe, legally codified, trustworthy middleman seems definitely necessary at this point. I don't have the requisite knowledge, and probably not the fiduciary responsibility, but I'd lik

What about releasing a minimal skeleton version as open source and free in the app store, but keeping the feature-laden edition as closed source and pay?

So far the US is only cracking down on domains in the .COM TLD. Do you guys think the US will eventually crack down on non-US-owned TLDs that are operated by US entities, such as .CO (operated by NeuStar)? And after that, perhaps a doomsday

It would really depend what those users are doing. If they're reading a single HTML page, you could handle that fairly easily. If they're playing a game it's another story.

I think the reason is a little more simple and obvious then that. Programmers are naturally drawn to difficult "high frequency" environments (hence all the interest in how Google/Netflix/Facebook run, even though few people will ever work o

I'm pretty surprised by this information! I've heard the exact opposite - people are more likely to click Twitter links then FB shares, which mirrors my personal experience using both. Thanks for sharing.

I think this is what they're planning. I note that they have made very slow progress on their on-site platform bits (and actually hurt them in many ways by reducing virality) but are constantly improving their off-site stuff, like Like stre

An easy/fun testbed for this idea might be Erlang's new type specs: http://www.erlang.org/doc/reference_manual/typespec.html You could write a parse transform that wraps all exported funs in a module in some kind of type analyzing shim fu

Are you talking about the limits in the linked article? It's 10,000 contacts in the address book that are limited, not total employees - though that is probably limited too.

It does seem to have a lot of weird artificial limits around the edge that no amount of begging or paying will ever change. I know people are saying stuff like this doesn't matter, but I manage at least 15 domains on GDomains now, and I wil

I've also been frustrated by these issues. I want to be able to edit a file with local typing speed (i.e., gvim on Windows), but then be able to hit a key and be in a terminal window on that server in that folder to perhaps do a manual grep
