The license debacle got me to switch (I clearly remember Dive Into Mark's spirited long rant), but Movable Type's weird Perlisms, and quirks like rebuilding all the posts when you changed the layout, would have sent me running eventually an

Fantastic idea. "Casual mentoring" like this brings a lot of the benefits of incubators to those not participating in them. I'll echo others in saying that we need more specificity in our expertise and a better browsing system. Perhaps allo

To me what's most interesting -- and something you touched on briefly in your article -- is that it seems this concept could be a powerful way to tie in Ajax and lazy loading (like Facebook does where parts of the page are loaded after the

I wish the examples here were more concrete. This could be a powerful mechanism, beyond the usual tiresome MVC.

It's a very easy to use product that is used by tens of thousands of pages, if not more. The revenue alone would be significant once they release better paid options. If you think an app like that is as easy as having a bunch of themes done

I wonder how fast nginx would be with C scripts for modules, rebuilding executables as needed using file mtime? Might be worth the experiment. For things like presence servers and COMET, it makes sense to code in C. Anyone else interested i

I don't think he would appreciate being 26 years old and making $100 a week again. I think perhaps his feeling of emptiness is not due to his possessions, but due to a lack of passion: he probably needs a more interesting job. I would defin

I am generally strongly opposed to outsourcing, but the Facebook API is a moving target and generally considered very poorly documented. There's also not much example code out there that still works with the current SDKs. I've had a very ha

I wonder if Facebook developed this functionality to aide companies bringing their ecommerce efforts directly onto Facebook (as Amazon and hundreds of others are now doing).

Are you sure? Unless I am misremembering, much of the Facebook code I see and write verifies permissions after they are accepted to see what you actually got.

For one project we leased a server from ThePlanet.com that included 10tb of bandwidth for about $399 or so. Our Amazon S3 bill was about $1,200 at the time. If something else in our network fails we can use this box in a pinch as an emergen

I'm also very happy with Linode. Similar enough to regular hosting that it's quick to set up (no worries about AMIs, etc), cheap, fast, and there are always plenty of extra instances available should you need to scale quickly.

I don't think Farmville needs Facebook to exist - it just needs a way to stay constantly connected with the player to continue the "social loop." With Facebook out of the picture they'd have much more freedom to interact with their hard cor
