There are no reported reception problems when just casually holding the iPhone 4 in your left hand, either.

I've tried (firmly) cupping my iPhone 3GS in my hand, both in my left and in my right, and in either position I lose up to four bars (in a place where I have very strong reception).

You are assuming that it is a big fuck up that affects a lot of units and/or people, and that the way a phone is held usually doesn't affect its reception. You are also implying that the iPhone 4 antenna has worse performance than its prede

He's mentioned that neither himself or anyone of a number or friends he's asked has been able to reproduce the problem. How could he possibly write exhaustively on the topic at this point, given the lack of information and personal experi

Yeah, or maybe it shows that you actually weren't an "Apple worshipper" just because it was obvious to you that the iPad was going to be huge.

I think apps from the app store need to be individually signed for each user, which wouldn't be possible on a generic install. At least, not presently.

Besides that, the iPhone is the phenomenal success it is not because of its long list of features. It has famously lacked features other phones have had for years , exactly because Apple's focus is on the experience of using the phone,

Ballmer basically laughed the iPhone off as insignificant. Yeah, he's obviously clairvoyant.

I use a similar method; the "algorithm" is different of course, but I too use a unique password for every account I have anywhere, which I calculate in a similar fashion. My algorithm is a bit simpler than the one you described though, I ca

True, in the same way that a swimming pool is very similar to a bathtub. Played any water sports in your bathtub lately?

Why though? I mean, we generally don't think it is important to respect other people's irrational beliefs — why is this one any different from all the other irrational beliefs a person can hold?

In what markets do Apple have a monopoly in, do you figure?

Apple is primarily a hardware company. The present AppStore isn't a big money maker for Apple for the iPhone/iPad (look at their financial reports), I don't see why it would be that different for iPad.

You couldn't pay me to use an existing desktop mail client over Gmail, either. Other than reasons you already iterated, the killer feature for me, the one I truly cannot be without, is the threaded conversation view. I know some desktop cli

Yeah that sucks, but maybe there's a lesson to be learned here: Don't purchase streaming services for a one-time cost. Streaming services should be subscription services. Just don't do this. Let the industry know that if you're to pur

Simply existing is not good enough for Apple, their bar is higher than that. See copy/paste on iPhone for an example: They could have implemented the menu-driven kind of copy/paste found on Palm Pre and Android, but they wouldn't becaus

There were no objections to either push notifications nor multitasking. At one point they weren't offered simply because you can't do all things at once, but Apple never made any objections to the technologies, moral or otherwise.

John Gruber has been making these exact points. This could basically be ghost written by Gruber and we wouldn't know the difference.

Gruber is no Apple apologist, he's just too insightful to come up with rants and raves about how one could "fix" Apple's business with a simple adjustment — unlike everybody else with an opinion on Apple.

It is not a feat of imagination to scale an iPhone up to the size of an iPad, but it is extremely unimaginative to not realize that it makes a world of difference in how and for what it can be used. I'm not saying Apple is enormously imag
