What’s the general sentiment on Swift? It’s 11-years old and I don’t see it talked about much on HN (except for discussion on Apple libraries & bugs). Do people like it as a language, and why?

Can someone explain to me how you determine if a font is ripped/stolen? I was under the impression that fonts are just a collection of line arc/points. So is this a probabilistic comparison in that, if all of the line arc/poi

But related, isn't the DOJ targeting Mozilla for exactly what I described above ... that because Google can pay so much for being the default search engine - it's not creating an environment for fair competition. https:/

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the DOJ requires Chrome to be sold off ... they would also not allow the new owner of Chrome to get revenue from search engines to be the default search engine. In which case, what is the monetization mo

I'm unable to edit. I did though indicate "please correct me if I'm wrong", in my original post. Which led to this discussion below that I'm sure people then read (like your comment on this sub-post)

That's one of the most interesting links I've seen in a long time (regardless of subject). Thanks for sharing because it puts things in perspective much easier due to the data it sourced.

One important point that’s not obvious from this article: U.S. pollution from fossil fuels isn’t actually decreasing. From what I understand (and please correct me if I’m wrong), overall energy demand in the U.S. continues to grow year over

A lot of time & effort went into that write-up. I realize what I'm about to say will get backlash ... but I can't help but think is the time to write this postmortem indicative of how the business was run. Meaning, who benefit

Can someone help me understand what Cohere does. Do they just host open source models - so you can get them up and going faster? If so, what’s their moat? What prevents AWS from doing the same thing?

My guess ... it's probably less of a "social network" and more of a "they are trying to build a destination (portal) where users go to daily". E.g. old days of Yahoo (portal)

Is this tied to Gmail because Notion is hoping to be acquired by Google (Workspace)? (Notion + Workspace would be an incredibly strong offering for startups ... if it was all integrated/owned by the same company)

Why not just make the escalator wider (normal width) - to not have so much wasted space.

Why are the white borders to the left/right of the escalator so wide? Seems like an unnecessary amount of wasted space (that would allow for a wider escalator).

“Startup” implies VC-backed company. And VC’s invest in companies to get a 100x return. Which almost by definition means, if you run a startup - you need to get it to become a unicorn for it to be successful. Otherwise, why take VC money
