I've never understood that argument. Whatever time you may save on monthly upkeep is lost many times over on daily (or at least, hopefully, weekly) washing and brushing and pony tailing, etc. I rebuzz my head about once every two or three w

Given that we tend to prefer low-to-no maintenance grooming choices, I'm surprised more hackers don't shave (or closely buzz) their heads: 1) You can do it yourself. Never pay for another hair cut. 2) You don't need shampoo or conditioner.

It seems to me that making research more open and searchable would mitigate some of these problems. The system-gaming and badly calibrated incentives smell like the kind of distortions closed social systems tend to introduce.

It's odd that he dismisses most existing Lisps, then advises the reader to create their own. I wasn't sure if he meant it pedagogically or pragmatically or both.

I don't know. OnLive can't scale very well as is. A liberal estimate would be four game instances per server, which means 250,000 servers for a million players. But if you're spreading that around, especially on players' machines that aren'

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that it's a little disingenuous to publicly call someone out without providing your methods or your results.

I wonder if you could eventually sell cycles back to OnLive, since you aren't doing the heavy lifting on your machine ... Maybe offset the cost of the service? Or maybe OnLive could do an ElectricSheep-like screensaver for distributed proce

Oh yeah, that's why the phrase "irreducibly complex" popped into my mind. Whoops. Just to be clear, I definitely wasn't referring to the intelligent design argument. I meant the phrase strictly in the "make everything as simple as possi

_Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X_[1] by Aaron Hillegass is really great. It's not an iPhone book, but there's enough similarity that it'd still be a really valuable read. [1] http://www.amazon.com/Cocoa-Programming-Mac-COCOA-PROGRAMMIN...
