Would it be possible for you to contact your customers and agree on a credit system? No finances being moved (because of the war) but you'll keep a track of their charges and after the war settle up. This will be difficult on your side

My anecdata is I moved jobs several times because the problems we were solving became less technical and more political; I'll take a salary decrease to enjoy my work, thank you very much. As long as it covers regular life expenses, I&#

Because PNG and GIF are accepted, what happens if I submit transparent pixels? Do they become black? White? Do end user devices render them transparently with window BG behind them? What if the GIF is animated? I feel like Apple left a few

Left a job in 2020 over exactly that. Our customers loved when we could fix/build features in a week, but after 18 months the bloat made it impossible to ship a new feature in the same month. I actually went behind my manager's ba

The context is NameCheap's CEO gave Russians and Belarusians "one week to get off my platform, no refunds" a few days ago. This was of course a very crass and inappropriate emotionally-charged response to Putin's little

Russian organizations may receive euros as payment, which are still usable in Europe to buy things. This gives the EU a huge level of control over Russian spending in their markets; if they pay less, it's not like Russia can just excha

That's another point of sanctions; they aren't one-way. It's to show others that while cooperation is ideal, if your partners act in bad faith you can survive just fine without them and are ready to accept the loss of their c

I'm very interested in building something like this for WASM programs; the goal of course is to make it easy for non-technical people to see that "Oh the software reads data from example.org, writes to /folder/data.txt,

This is a very under-discussed set of people; I left a job mid-2021 to work in an office (and threw away a promotion), and it's been the best decision ever. I even gave up some freedom to use the tools I enjoy most, because the new pos

I agree with the premise that using a google-like AI to "detect someone who looks like a criminal" is a terrible idea; but I also think that if you're out in public you shouldn't expect privacy. Loads of people think if

My favorite thing about rust is that it has no magic "don't look behind the curtain and your programs will be safe" guard - instead, you define the guard yourself; it's just unnecessary for 99% of code, and within the 1%

Linux already overcommits memory so much you can imaging it's infinite, the big show-stopper is the 64 bit integers used to track it. We'd need infinite pointer sizes before we could meaningfully use infinite tape.

I've used searx with moderate success, but you really have to put effort into the different backends. Sometimes paid backends actually are worth it, a lot of the time it makes sense to write your own with a ~1 week on-disk cache of the
