Drawing the backstop window was forcing the rasterization of an entirely new font, which was costing time and memory for something that shouldn’t ever be seen in the first place.
Wow, I never thought an entire operating system could be crippled by font load times. Must be a problem I'm too linux & vector font to understand.
- forbiddenlake 5y agoThe article makes no mention of crippling the entire operating system. "costing time and memory" can be true without implying a large magnitude.
- junon 5y agoMost fonts are vector, except for bitmap fonts which are typically only used in BIOS/VESA output. Not sure what the brag is here.
