My college uses 1.1.1.1 as their iis administration endpoint, I was told the reason was "nobody would guess it so it reduces the number of dumb kids guessing the edu\Administrator domain password". Around the time cloudflare start

Small question: what, in your opinion, is the definition of "better experience"? On one hand you can hide the hardware from users and make a limited form of success simple and easy (see windows + mac). On the other extreme you can

I second this thought, open source is all about figuring things out yourself and promoting individual independence. Designing documentation as if a group of engineers are suddenly required to give their time to some "newb 'custome

The telemetry is an interesting reminder; I wonder how difficult it would be to modify/reverse-engineer W11 to spit out garbage telemetry? Gigabytes and gigabytes of the stuff, just give MS the same garbage they give us.

Your defense there is to file depreciation of the asset for the 363 days you used it; you could even steal devices to farm tax credits which can offset your regular income tax this way!

My 8-second take: I imagine candles weren't all that standardized, and obviously a candelabra can only hold one size. If this was used to hold candles it has the advantage of being small, versatile (12 diameters), but the pins will ens

Arch user here who's slapped the Pantheon desktop on top of it; I don't use it often, mostly an i3 guy, but when I do it's beautiful and I love the work Elementary OS has put into it. All I need to add are those dancing icons

I left my first job for that reason, management had a complete inability to progress from "it works" to "it works well".

I would like to register the security issue: "import os; os.system('cat /etc/shadow')" demonstrates that without a kernel to check permissions (and without a user ID to be checked against), all filesystem safet

I absolutely love doing this, usually in the other direction: external USB3-or-better hard drive which can boot by itself or be loaded into QEMU on linux/window/macos. Excellent way to treat operating systems like browser tabs.

We found the Arch Linux developer XD "All hail rolling releases, why haven't you updated yet? I published it 15 minutes ago!"

I find the profanity nicely limited and appropriate; if the comment had gone on to curse institutions in general / not share a constructive anecdote that's where I'd call it inappropriate.

I have anecdata of the opposite: my ThinkPad T590 cannot install windows with the .iso from microsoft, you need hardware drivers for the NVMe SSD off another disk during the install. I think windows and linux are about equal in terms of har

I love Arch, and have always considered Debian + debian derivatives to be subpar because of packages + community issues. I need to go check out Debian rolling, never knew that existed. Could be a useful hybrid for coworkers who believe roll

No, it never even had a resizable terminal until early win 10. Unix terminals are an economic powerhouse in themselves and binutils like sed/awk/grep (which windows never had and you need to modify windows to have these tools).
