People saying it is deferred PIPs or house cleaning are deluded. At Meta and Amazon I know some senior people who were laid off. People got decent severance so not too much negative comments, but I think it is a blood bath. 10% is not a sma

Lowered spending a bit assuming I am already laid off. X-mas, black-friday did not help my budget. One major thing is we are omitting a fancy vacation in our plans this year. Had to explain this to my non-tech spouse but she got it, as othe

I was shocked that this was the case and wished I knew about this sooner. Also had kids in mid-30s and it is complicated to say the least. I thought 40 was late (as had some friends succeed at that age).

I own a 3090. Skipping on the 4090 for now as I am disturbed by melting-connector-gate. The Youtube and reddit threads scared me off as a customer. Don't recall this for previous generations.

On the positive, a loved one getting chemo does not seem to have any of the bad symptoms. It is a weaker therapy due to age. So pls don't freak out about side-effects (we did and it was for naught). Good luck!

I thought the article was written in a very humble manner. The lessons shared were honest and heartfelt. I spent my life in corporate. Lesson 6 (Planning is often the highest leverage work) touched something inside me. In a large corp, I ha

You could use an NVIDIA Jetson (it is a lot heavier but close). Intel had the Movidius stick and the openvino platform. Not sure I have seen anything recent there as well. CES is coming up .. maybe we'll see something new. It is a hard

The issue is who pays for the welfare state. Finland got a lot of its wealth through off sea oil I think. Not easy to replicate in almost every part of the world. If you make the population pay for the welfare state, you are essentially rob

No .. when you do MNIST in a DL tutorial it all looks easy. The problem is when things don't work as expected (real-world TM). I have a freakin PhD in CS (top school where a bunch of this stuff was invented .. some of my friends are &q

Just a comment .. looking at salary in tech is silly. Lets ignore benefits which are likely impossible to quantify. Most tech workers in hi-fi companies and roles get stock (even I don't understand how to properly value but big diff if

I moved from the Bay area to NYC and met my now wife after less than a month. I wish I stayed in the Bay area back then (circa 2010) .. I likely would have hit gold at least once by now. Yet ... the toil continues.
