Yes .. but. I had a great education/CV early in my career, and had the opportunity to interview at some of the top most companies prior to their IPO (some when they were tiny companies). Google, Facebook, Stripe and maybe 3 more that w

The last sentence struck a cord with me. Emergency-mode doesn't just have to do with money. Asking for constant status updates on projects has the same effect. I don't understand why some companies force this on employees/tea

Thx to you and others for the suggestions (I upvoted everyone and appreciate it). Good point that CUDA is its own world and won't really give me that pure software feel. Part of it might be me getting old and missing the days of my you

I play with microcontrollers for fun, and enjoyed mucking with Freertos a few years back. But that was all C code. It did scratch the event driven programming itch. There were a couple of good Udemy courses on ARM and Freertos (also freely

No .. Linus can approve it on himself. Linus cannot approve such a thing on behalf of other maintainers.

This is a good question. You would recruit actual maintainers, [edit: or whoever is your intended subject pool] (who would provide consent, perhaps be compensated for their time). You could then give them a series of patches to approve (som

FYI .. many ACM conferences are now asking explicitly if an IRB was required, and if so, was it received. This does not prevent researchers from saying IRB doesn't apply, but perhaps it can be caught during peer review. Btw .. I posted

These two sentences seem contradictory from the author's response is contradictory: " The IRB of UMN reviewed the study and determined that this is not human research (a formal IRB exempt letter was obtained). Throughout the study

Holy cow!! I'm a researcher and don't understand how they thought it would be okay to not do an IRB, and how an IRB would not catch this. The linked PDF by the parent post is quite illustrative. The first few paras seem to be down

You may want to take a look at the Coinbase founding thread from 2012. You should consider putting in more details about yourself. Are you deeply technical or more focused on the business side? I understand why you would use an anonymous ac

There are two issues that come to mind .. do we have enough materials to make more and more LiON batteries (grid level storage) and are these things recyclable/not going to mess up the Earth?

I was at an event today where Al Gore spoke positively about LiON battery as energy storage. I was a bit surprised .. is this sustainable tech?

Hindsight is 20/20. I recall looking at k8s and swarm closely circa 2014-2015. K8s wasn't very good. The networking worked best in the Google cloud .. not your usual datacenter. I recall concluding Swarm was the better tech. If hi

Thanks for the nice writeup. You mentioned Javascript in the article. Is webrtc tied to browsers and JS? Or can it be used by other clients too .. like mobile apps or wearables?

Cool project! The part that I was fascinated by was not the electronics but the physical design and manufacture. It is very impressive! Would love it if you go into details .. what 3D printer, post-processing, software tools used, etc.
