It was posted at the best time day for a US audience (5 am CDT) and the marketing for it is pretty solid. But yes I think so, it had around 10 upvotes in a minute or so. Minor astroturfing (having real people you know with real HN accounts

The site was up a few minutes ago, I bet somebody thought they were getting DDoS'ed and took it down. Also normal road signs use retro reflective spheres mixed into the paint to increase brightness at night, not sure if those can be ca

This is why I hate using AWS and similar virtual servers. I use them for quick dev stuff then get a non shared server. Massive datacenter scaling doesn't save that much money. The money in cloud is made from huge over-provisioning. Mos

I don't think it confuses anyone that's worked on lower levels, particularly listening on sockets or kernel callbacks. It's a new concept to a lot of upper level programmers that used to be isolated from this stuff by threads

why is Google doing this? They're helping everyone else build a spider that could easily serve as the front end to a new search engine. Is this their way of fighting back against the internet closing off? Give everyone a spider so perf

I'm an adrenaline junkie and found my love of exercise in biking. You can go fast enough that it's a decent rush, and going out on trails can be really exciting. Once you get into good shape you can hit over 30mph for short times.

Whats the different between this and a regular hybrid SSD/HDD besides being more expensive and exclusive to Intel? No benchmarks and pretty bad write speeds(even if latency is low). I bet this would get beat by a SSD/HHD hybrid fo

Then why not block based on bots that ignore robots text or make requests too quickly like I suggested? Looking for sub-strings in the UA header is a hack at best.

Is anything in this thread for real? This post talks about a bunch of stuff that sounds like gibberish to someone not working at Amazon. The hell is an LP? More importantly, how does this possibly become the top comment? Also this user has

Blocking access based on arbitrary user agent strings is a really bad idea. Every single bad bot will avoid known user agent strings or pretend to be Google, so you're only blocking well behaved ones. Plus there's thousands of bro

I was wrong about docker, back when I was playing with it it did use LXC, and appears to have started out as project to make a specialized version of LXC. You're right that Docker has its own container runtime now. The overhead for run

You don't need to use the app for QC35, I didn't know about it till I had them for a month. The reason I got the app is because it does firmware updates. They've released quite a few updates to improve audio quality, noise ca

With the QC35's you can plug them directly into a wired jack and shut the power switch off. They run fine with no ANC and without using battery.

Containers use LXC in the Linux kernel underneath. Overhead is even lower than HVM virtualization which is a couple percent for most things. Containers are really just a smarter way of dividing resources between users on a shared linux box,

Chill breh, a lot of devs in SV were college fratboys. I don't see anything wrong with their vernacular leaking into development. You act like being in a frat is an insult. I don't think people should have to stick to any "bu
