While I have no experience building software teams, I did navigate a few situations where a relationship between a business and a software vendor went sour. How long two parties can talk past each other is impressive sometimes. Once everyon

Yes, Fork is a very welcome spiritual successor.

At some point I used that too, but it's kind of built-in nowadays.

I've loved Pixelmator from the beginning, but I just can't get used to the new UI of Pro. :/

Never "upgraded" from 3.4.0 and never going to. For now it works fine, but at some point I'm going to need to switch...

Any somewhat decent company would have an alternative, more rigid verification process to rely on when the basic one is insufficient. It doesn't require telling which part their doubts lie with. They do sometimes ask for an official ID

One doesn't accidentally make things up, and for invoices to be booked, my accountant wouldn't have it any other way.

Whether to provide proof is at least a choice you get to make, but in my case even that wasn't on the (empty) table.

So had I, until I actually tried to sign up. Have a look at the way they treat you when they have (unfounded) suspicions. It's beyond ridiculous.

Literally this. Their staff won't provide any details, nor even a route towards a solution. When I asked what they suggest doing in this situation, they simply stopped responding.

A reliable partner does not close accounts without any kind of recourse. Denying that under the guise of fraud prevention is just security through obscurity. I hope these practices become illegal sooner rather than later. Never before have

I thought scraping is kind of dead given all the CAPTCHAs and auth walls everywhere. The article does mention proxies and rate limiting, but could anyone with (recent) practical experience elaborate on dealing with such challenges?

But that's pretty much the point, isn't it? Apps on your computer are supposed to feel (a lot) faster than a website.

Thanks for telling me about this. It's definitely not acceptable to appropriate such sensitive data without consent.

In the same vein, I'd name Tornado (www.tornadoweb.org). Also rather small and comprehensible, but with full async support that's evolved extremely nicely. Generally I love how well-designed and maintained it is.

To further emphasize the point that a mail server being authorized often isn't worth much, or can be counterproductive even: shocking numbers of SMTP providers don't verify anything beyond the login. As a result, each and every on

Tornado evolved extremely nicely. Gone are the days of needing callbacks or decorators. Now it's just a matter of putting async in front of def and there's your asynchronous handler.

Proprietary, with almost full sources to the standard library, however. There is indeed a bunch of half-assed stuff, but that's easy to ignore. In general, Delphi moves slowly and hardly ever breaks backward compatibility. Only the tra

Back in 2011, I was doing the inverse where I connected my MBA in Target Disk Mode for my iMac to boot from. It was like a fancy external display that also provided excellent performance. Rather exotic, but no headaches of maintaining two i

For me it's the opposite really. Every time I touch Linux, I'm overwhelmed by how messy it is. I spent hours upgrading an old Ubuntu box serving as a Ubiquity UniFi Controller and ended up in some kind of dependency hell. While tr

Works very well indeed. The only thing I miss is the ability to easily create public links from the GUI. TIL it is possible from the command line, so perhaps I can make it work with Automator.
