I can attest to that. Several I tried before went bad soon, or were impossible to keep on because they were too warm or pushing against my eyes. Although I'd still rather sleep without when feasible, this one saves the night sometimes.

I fairly recently bought a fanless Shuttle barebone with a modern Intel CPU, that produced unbearable coil whine. It too became silent when kept busy. What solved it was disabling C-states and P-states.

To the contrary, niches can be small worlds where stories spread quickly, since everyone knows each other.

Mostly because it builds self-contained executables that are virtually guaranteed to work. Nowadays this is much less of a thing, but we are talking about the day and age of DLL Hell.

It can though, if you install the ARM build of Windows (in a VM), which translates instructions like Rosetta 2 does: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/arm/overview#suppor... .

I don't expect that to be very special. Embedding Python is a common thing to do, and boils down to using the interpreter as a library: https://docs.python.org/3/extending/embedding.html .

Yes, their desktop clients were mainly written in Python (with Qt) and shared a lot of code between platforms. Right now I'm looking at their installation folder under Windows. It still comes with python38.dll, as well as a whole bunch

> Personally, I think that the existing PostgreSQL behavior (NULLS DISTINCT) is the "right" one I find this to be at odds with IS DISTINCT FROM, which is false for two NULLs.

Same here. In addition, it's incredibly versatile, has abstractions that I like, and ships with the right amount of stuff. Most importantly, it never gets in my way. I just keep coming back to it.

As much as I like Lazarus, I wouldn't recommend it for complex data visualizations by someone skilled in web tech.

This is a common way of expressing italics in plain text. Not that it's needed on HN, because here one can use asterisks and get actual italics .

So many people around me love using Picasa. It offers everything they need in a user friendly fashion, and no more. Such a shame it was abandoned.

One reason could be that 3.8 is the last version to support Windows 7, which (despite EOL) is still widely used.

Switched a couple of months ago. The only thing I miss is the ability to quickly generate a public link. Otherwise it's excellent.

I don't mind a subscription nearly as much as the push to the cloud though.

I'm totally with you. Whenever I tried to build anything with Django, I soon went back to Tornado for its glorious simplicity. Being able to quickly see how something is implemented is worth much more to me than any magic I mostly end

Reliable professionals for just about anything. There's a ton of stuff I'd happily leave to others at a premium price, if I could only rest assured that they'd do it properly. I simply don't know where to look.
