Depends entirely on the field. Different fields have different conventions.

You generally don’t have dynamic memory allocation on such a system. All memory will either be statically allocated globals, or on the stack. Some systems even require stack allocation to be statically determined, which means no recursion.

That’s just moving the composition between hardware and software - the equivalence still applies. I can build any logic (software) function out of a function that evaluates NOR.

NOR (like NAND) is a universal logic gate. You can build any other logic gate out of just NORs. For this ALU, you’d presumably write a subroutine that computed XORs in terms of NORs, and then use that as a primitive for building an adder.

LLVM's interpreter is atrociously slow. It's only really meant for debugging LLVM itself.

Apple's cores are self-designed rather than licensing the full core from ARM. It's akin to Intel and AMD both designing cores for the X86 architecture.

There’s nothing VLIW-like in Thumb or Thumb2. It’s just a more compact encoding.

I don't think that chart actually reflects Moore's Law well, because it doesn't normalize for total area. Many of the chips listed, especially at the high end, are very large but not especially dense.

The input stream for an SNES isn't very complicated - just the state of a few buttons at every cycle, and the transition edges are quite sparse relative to the clock frequency. You could easily record human play sessions and replay th

It’s just a variation of arena allocation. You allocate everything for the current frame in an arena. When the frame is complete. You free the entire arena, without needing any heap walking. A generational GC achieves a similar end result

I would say the opposite. Achieving fusion power is so critical to the long term sustainability of human technological civilization that we cannot afford to put all of our eggs in one basket, and hope that we picked the right one.

At a guess, 1980 marked the rise of the "Christian right" / "religious right" as organized forces in conservative politics. Jerry Falwell's Moral Majority was founded in 1979, for instance.
