So, is there a way to get the depth map out of the image separately for more post-processing? Fake DOF is nice, but there are a lot more fun things you can use a depth map for. For example, it seems like ghetto photogrammetry (turning photo

I've heard decent things about WiredTree for managed servers. Decent, not awesome. Bytemark are awesome, and do offer managed servers, but I don't know how much they charge for them.

A random thought on this - would topology encompass, say, better ways to unwrap 3D models / project textures onto said models? If so, various 3D / gamedev people might be interested in talking to you...

Indeed. I have paid and will continue to happily pay significant sums of money for educational material at approximately this detail level, so I'm very very happy that Patrick is willing to do it for free.

You'd need to take a sabbatical from your work in the US, rent an apartment in Egypt, and continue to pay bills in the US. But given that by doing so you'd be saving $83,000, that still sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I'

If you're really enjoying working 80 hours a week, and everyone else on the team is too, I don't see a huge problem with it - provided, and this is a big "provided", that if anyone doing that wants to stop working 80 hou

Does the existence of Diablo mean that we don't want Torchlight? Does the existence of Modern Warfare 2 mean we don't want Spec Ops: The Line? Games can be very similar to previous ones but still offer a new experience.
