The main issue with FirefoxOS was the performance(of the devices and perhaps also the OS itself). I had the first firefox phones(I think the brand was ZTE) and they were basically rubbish(i.e. they had a 1sec or more lag). I would take a No

It says the database is open source but I can't find any link to the source code. Is both the client and server open source?

Is there any open source library that does that? I know in theory many things are possible but it would be great to actually test it/see it in action. I never thought of Swift as a language with zero cost abstractions and deterministic

Are there bad languages? Can you give an example of a such language? I'm also wondering why JS changed so much lately if it was a great language already.

That's right but you are not returning the error. Here is the corrected snippet https://play.golang.org/p/A3YRSTg-7K Edit: your example works too, though I find it weird...

Swift does have a runtime though. In its current form I can't see it replacing C or C++. It may provide more deterministic performance than Go but it's not C. If it were to be designed as C replacement I would expect a roadmap for

The law will always be abused by those in power be it corporations, individuals or governments so I think technology is actually the main part of the solution. Google along with other parties can contribute to technologies(i.e. end to end e

Maybe you mean softlayer. As far as I know Rackspace was recently bought out by someone else. I understand IBM wants to be cool but it doesn't make sense to promote an immature technology as enterprise ready...

Swift can't do realtime. It has automatic memory management. How do you replace C or C++ with Swift for that? What they mean is that Swift replaces Objective-C on user facing apps(on Apple devices) but I doubt you will see the critical

I thought stability of the ecosystem (i.e. stable standard library) was also a "must" for adoption by the enterprise. Never thought that a language in flux with "hosting" support from IBM is enough. But now it seems the

Do you really think Swift 3 is ready for enterprise usage? They say the core lib is not ready yet for production usage[0]. It's not about how may breaking changes I'm willing to take but in the enterprise world there is little inc

I'm wondering what makes swift ready for the enterprise ecosystem. It barely seems to meet the requirements of the "enthusiastic consumer" outside of Apple OS.

I see.. though it(swift 3) was just released. I didn't know the enterprise world changed so much(i.e. adopting a technology immediately after release). The core/std library `is not yet ready for production use, and in fact are sti

I think the load-balancers do not communicate over SSL. At least not the ones in front of Appengine applications. Perhaps only inter-services communication is encrypted(i.e. app service with database service).

You and me have different views about privacy. I think you should have control over your data. Google indirectly provides your email information to advertisers. Example: You receive a flight notification. Google reads your email and targets

My point that you have no control over the data once you send it to Google. You don't even know if they even encrypt it on their disk/server anyway.

Most datancenters are lost once the internal network is hacked so I think that's a different issue. Encryption wouldn't help either because the attacker could get the keys too.

Well if you trust Google you don't need on-disk encryption in the first place. SSL already solved the transport issue.

The rest of points are not addressed by this sort of encryption because the keys are on disk too. Google employees have access to the keys. It's like leaving the keys into the lock and claiming it's more secure because it has a lo

That's really just BS. What's the point of encryption if both the keys and the content is known by Google? They could as well use just SSL and that wouldn't make it safer than this kind of "encryption".

Like on a 5 year old browser. Honestly, unless you develop for government I don't see any reason to consider 5 year old browsers. Do you develop apps for iPhone 1 or Android 1? The web is already behind anyway...

WASM is supposed to be first class citizen so I don't see any reason why it shouldn't have access to the DOM or any other browser feature available to JS.
