Incorrect, and you're starting to fly off the rails here. It's fine to critique studies and findings. It's not okay to say that you or your facebook friends know better and can substitute your own thoughts on a subject. That

Your anti-science vibe is terrifying. Be very careful about how you word stuff like this, even if at the end of the day it's just healthy skepticism. It's the same vibe that gives power to conspiracy theories.

Of course. So what? The current alternative to scientific studies (with their varying degrees of bias and flaws) are Facebook-esque anecdotes about rednecks eating bacon that apparently are so compelling that they get upvoted to the top of

This view is really bad. The only logical thing to do is to follow current scientific consensus the best we can. Adjust ourselves as those views adjust. Anything else is just pure ego saying that you know better than experts. Random example

God, Covid has severely hurt my friendships. It's hard to even think about "schedules" or anything until the summer -- over a year with minimal friendship contacts. Video calls don't work for me, and everything is closed

AFAIK, people don't really steal stock radios anymore. Or at least, it's not very common. Your trunk should also be empty of anything valuable. There's no reason to keep much back there overnight. I guess thieves could steal

The best and only important deterrent is to not have anything to steal, especially in plain view. If everyone did this then theft from parked cars would drop to zero, and break-ins to near zero. Smash and grabbers don't care about alar

Since I've lived in US cities, yes. Almost daily do I hear a car alarm. Probably just a factor of: 1. More cars around me in the city than in the small town I came from. 2. More things that can set off the alarms (loud motorcycles bein

Anyone with a car alarm enabled in a city is just straight up rude and inconsiderate. I can't imagine the mindset involved for someone to put a device outside someone's bedroom window that will somewhat randomly start blasting lou

HN has always had horrible UX and no desire to fix it. This tracks and does not excuse the original site at all.

Parlor was created in response to hate moderation on other platforms. It's not too far off to say "Parlor was created as a space for hate". Only used for hate is obviously wrong, but that doesn't change much.

That's at least a principled stance, which I can appreciate. I still disagree, though. It seems like the only logical way to get out of your thought process would be to create software and then never update or change anything. Either t
