This whole anti-trust case seems to be for the benefit of certain businesses (Microsoft, Yandex, etc) and not consumers.

This article is more like a comment and summary on the original article, which was in NextWeb: http://thenextweb.com/dd/2016/04/07/google-facebook-uber-swi... To be fair, macrumors did give credit to Nex

Violence is trending downward, in the US and worldwide. Racism, sexism and homophobia are also trending downward, at least in the US (we just barely legalized same-sex marriage, a significant step forward). Concerns about these things have

Is anyone else amazed at the absolutely magical era of time in which we live? I don't know which is more awesome: 1) I can find a product that fits my need more exactly than I could ever have expected ten years ago, 2) that I can get i

In theory, I agree with you. Everything I know about economics and organizational behavior seems to agree with you. But it seems that's not how it's worked out in the past ten years, and probably not how it will work out in the n

On the one hand, Google using it's app store advantage to strengthen search seems to me like it might be a monopoly abuse. On the other hand, Google gave away an OS and built a whole ecosystem to protect their search (to the benefit of

I doubt it. You and I are both going to get heavily downvoted for this by the devout Apple fanatics, but it's unreasonable that Google is held to a much higher standard than Apple. Google gives away the OS for free (speech and beer),

So do you, or anyone else, know good methods and resources for teaching children with autism theory of mind? My son is ASD (as I probably am). And I want to help him out so that he doesn't have to learn the hard way as I did. I'

Same here. I was able to learn social skills in my late teens and through my twenties. It wasn't exactly a fun process though. I'd try to "act normal" and then get feedback that taught me I was breaking a social norm.

Is it not equally likely the other way around - that the Neanderthal mitochondria disappeared because of unsuccessful mixed females or other genetic drift?

A little dark hypothesis: I've seen some (intertwined) hypotheses in the news lately of why there's no neanderthal Y chromosomes: the mixed-race-neanderthal-Y boys didn't do so well for some reason, the human Y chromosome had

"You wouldn't sue Google for listing a libelous search result" Google functions as an index that points you to another source. They don't actually have control over the source. The credit bureaus are the source.

I want a lightweight watch that can open my door at home and work, unlock my car, pay for my groceries, and carry the digital equivalent of membership cards. If Apple could that, I'd buy one and empty out my overstuffed pockets. But at

"I see the whole thing as a declaration from Putin to Russia" After thinking about it, I think you're right on this. I'm evaluating it as bad international PR when it's probably more internal propaganda.

This reads like propaganda and misses what I consider a big question: why did Putin claim himself as "the main target" when the media wasn't focused on him and there was no evidence really damning him? It just raises question

Props to you for organizing a discussion as a first step. And best of luck solving the problem. If I still lived in the Bay Area, I'd show up for support.

While I agree with the post, I think the need for more housing is obvious and the root problem is political. If you find a way to solve the political problem, I'd be impressed.

I was arguing against the below statements specifically, which I don't think are accurate based on my experience. I've been at companies that let slide non-productivity because it's easier than firing, until times are tight.

I loved this article, but I do have to disagree on one point: your productivity matters. Lots of teams have someone who is not pulling their weight but the boss doesn't want to have to fire them.

Does anyone have more solid info on whether the GPL would apply in this case? I would really like to know if licensing agreements (and copyrights) still apply to ported code (assuming there's no patents on the algorithm).

1: I don't judge anyone for using adblockers because there's a lot of moral grey area here. 2: "Advertising is not the only way to make money from writing/media" -> I don't think this is a very good argument
