I don’t ride on the street anymore (not enough fun to be worth the risk - of death via car or losing my drivers license), but I do regularly take my S1000RR to the track. It is capable of doing just over 90mph in first gear, which is why i

I have a proposal for you: Take back the k from the marketers. Define: k = multiple of 1920x1080 pixel count 1920x1080 ~= 2M pixels = 1k 2560x1440 ~= 4M pixels = 2k 3840x2160 ~= 8M pixels = 4k So now 1440p = 2k, and k becomes meaningful.

Isn’t it interesting that the more technology people have, the less they understand how it works? The profit motive for business is to make things easier to use, but ironically that also makes it less likely for anyone using it to have any

I see nobody around me at concerts wearing AirPod Pro 2s, even though they are undoubtedly the best musical experience you can have without destroying your ear drums (in the adaptive transparency mode). I expect that one day I’ll go to a co

The costs of outages are much greater than just a few people dying. A lot of effort is put into quantifying the costs of reliability on the electric system, only for you to just hand-wave it all away. At least try to educate yourself at m

This is the way - the Direct Primary Care model. Find the smartest DPC doc that you can and you will be free from so much of our broken system.

See my nearby comment on Direct Primary Care. It is possible to partially opt out of the system, and fortunately it is the part of the system that you touch most often (or should be anyway).

The Direct Primary Care model shows that the overheads for healthcare are definitely a very large contributing factor to high costs and poor patient experiences. Cutting out the insurance company and related overheads from the medical prac

For a friendly (to UPS) payment of $5.99, UPS America will happily deliver your package to a nearby location. The worst part is that if you just want the package held at the hub in advance then it’s still $5.99 now, even though they didn’t

I have been responsible for maintaining many thousands of pages of documentation with a dozen+ staff, and can say that at least for my industry there is often no hierarchy that fits every use case. Then consider that your documentation ref

Looks like it’s making extensive use of embeddings. The embeddings and vector comparisons are dirt cheap. The summarizing / answering functionality when the LLMs get involved is going to be the expensive part.
