The Python server is pretty trivial to deploy. Set up Postgres, tweak a hand full of settings in the config, that's pretty much it. Has been running without issues for half a year. Just a single person deployment though.

It's not as easy as that. Pictures are clearly personally identifiable data, so storing them violates the GDPR if you don't have permission to do so. Some "data analysis company" got fined a hefty sum for doing so with E

As a point of warning: at some point I started learning Dvorak. I learned it well, switched to it completely, and it was great. Except that it was absolutely horrible. Not because of the layout, but: maybe it's just me, but I completel

I switched to NixOS two years ago , and have installed it on about 6 personal machines, both latpops and desktops. I don't bother with building a custom ISO. The way I do it: * Boot with the default ISO * Format the disk * Git clone my

Sure, but that would hopefully be made illegal very quickly. The EU already has pretty strict rules around product placement, which is quite similar to what purchased bias would be, only worse.

Are you saying that the articles claims of Google leadership seeing this as a critical risk are false? Because if Google sees this as a "red alert", it doesn't seem to be so laughable. Even if Google can easily offer the same

For the past few years there were regular rumors that Apple will launch AR glasses and/or a VR headset "really soon". AR goggles would definitely need to be light weight, so they would probably rely on an iPhone to do all the

It think you got things very mixed up here. Google Reader was shut down in 2013. At that time Facebook was THE hugely dominant social network, with Twitter solidly established, and Instagram rapidly becoming popular. Google Reader was well

No one seems to have mentioned the really interesting aspect here: Twitter must be bleeding DAUs. There are other indicators too. After the takeover they dropped the login wall, but it is back, and way more aggressive than before. You can&

You know, there is this flashy new language called Rust. Not that well known yet, I admit. It doesn't have any of the above in the standard library, apart from threads, and it seems to be doing fine... Building a language is a massive

Many apps have lots of feature flags that can be turned on and off based on what the API says. Also used for things like A/B testing.

My biggest wish would be proper sum types. The current way of manually creating tagged unions is really awkward. But that won't be added because there is no native JavaScript equivalent.

Many languages have linters and formatters. That is what you should use. You can't run Intellij IDEs on CI to validate the pull request. That said, I do appreciate the powerful code analysis provided by Jetbrains IDEs.

"Old language have it, so it must not be a problem" is not a very convincing argument. Almost every new language that has come out in the last ~10 years or so tries hard to avoid null pointers, and old languages try very hard to m
