I don't know what geospatial features are needed, but otherwise time series databases are great for this use case. I especially like Clickhouse, it's generic but also a powerhouse that handles most things you throw at it, handles

Some countries have already sort-of banned single-use plastic bags (with exceptions where it makes sense). Where I live supermarkets now only have paper bags or sturdy multi-use bags. There will also be some EU wide legislation pretty soon.

Great high level explanation. Note: if you look into the details of how setting up namespaces and cgroups works you'll run away in horror. The APIs are very iteratively evolved piecework, not really a coherent(ly designed) abstraction.

If old.reddit didn't still have a very sizeable user base they definitely would have killed it by now, so you are not alone.

There were lots of rumors that Apple was working on both AR glasses and VR goggles, but had to focus on the latter because the tech just isn't there to do glasses right.

So what you are offering here is essentially a small UX improvement over sharing a flake with a devshell in a Git repo? I'm the first to admit that nix is way too cumbersome to use, but this alone doesn't seem like enough value ad

There is nothing new or dystopian about this, a tradeoff between capital expenditure and labour has existed since ... forever. Do I buy expensive tool X or get buy with cheap ones that make the work take longer or be less precise? Do I buy

Even if Airbus could suddenly double capacity over night, a duopoly already is quite bad for consumers (aka airlines). They certainly don't want to create a monopoly.

You can't commit locally with either CVS or SVN, if I remember correctly? If the premise is "I can work on this locally", then you could do this since forever by just having a local directory...

I use NixOS, both on servers and on my machines, but it solves a completely orthogonal problem. Kubernetes manages a cluster, NixOS manages a single machine.

Clicking with the borrow checker is a big hurdle for many, but once it clicks and you adjust your design patterns to be compatible with the language it really is a secondary concern. I very rarely run into borrow check errors, and if I do t
