I hear what you're saying and I don't disagree that both "sides" are susceptible to group think and a mob mentality. I consider myself fairly moderate which is why I include examples of extreme views from the left (anti-

My first job was washing dishes at a cafe for about 30 hours a week for minimum wage (which in my state at the time was around $5 an hour). I also got a portion of the tips made by the front room staff (usually a few bucks a day). So as a t

I think this is something that largely gets ignored in all of these discussions about deplatforming, free speech, etc. There is a baked in assumption that all people are rational and will respond to well-reasoned arguments and evidence and

I used my very first paycheck from my very first job as a teen to get my own phone line set up in my room. Mostly so I could use the internet (dial-up at the time) without tying up the phone line, but also so I could avoid my siblings snoop

I’ll second this. Here’s an anecdote from just this morning: I sat down at my desktop with my coffee. The first thing I did was fire up Unity and Visual Studio to continue some work on learning about networked multiplayer games. I spent abo

True. However, hopefully that’s being mitigated through things like not allowing authors to review their own commits, not using the same accounts to push code changes and do deployments (i.e. having a read-only account for deployments), etc

Sounds like the attackers did not have write access. From the original blog post: > The account did not have permissions to modify any code or engineering systems and our investigation further confirmed no changes were made. These accou

Though this is bad for Microsoft, does it make the situation substantially worse from a security perspective? Assuming they’re following good practices like not storing access keys, passwords, etc, in their source control system(s), this se

I’m not the OP, but when I think of “systemic thinking” I think the focus is more on looking at all of the factors involved as part of a holistic model rather than placing blame at the feet of a particular individual or process. You can sti

I think that statement is fair and part of the anxiety/depression I feel. I grew up in a family of poor drug addicts, so I've tied a lot of my notions about success and a "good" life to things like financial security and

Something I’ve noticed about myself that’s related to this: I often go through intense periods of depression and anxiety with thoughts that center around a perceived lack of meaning in my life (i.e. wondering what the point of my life is de

I’d be curious about this as well. I was on a medication previously that had a rare chance of causing Stevens-Johnson syndrome (very severe rash with other possible complications). I did some research on it, and the standard approach for th
