Sure, $20,000 for the shares but what about the taxes you'd owe on the shares? If the value increases 50-fold, does the IRS not see that as 1,000,000 - 20,000 = $980,000 of taxable income?

GPS satellites somewhat regularly go in and out of service for various reasons. There are more satellites in the constellation than strictly necessary in order to compensate for this. Information on this is distributed to pilots (in the US)
