You're missing an important intersection: you can get on a closed-loop cruise from the US without a passport and with a criminal record. Cruises fill the "cheap Caribbean getaway" segment for the sizable American population w

As a "younger" programmer it always shocks me how things like git were only created in 2005. It feels so ubiquitous and the way it functions has the "feeling" of something created in the 80s or 90s to me.

I would assume they're really just trying to "catch" people talking on cell phones, and people singing are causing "too many" false positives of the detection system?

We don't even understand how the brain functions completely, not even close. Until we have a complete understanding of how our own GI works down to the exact bio-mechanical level, we can't achieve AGI. That's the theoretical

I don't think so, because there are countless vendors for all different parts of the stack fighting for marketshare and doing their best to prevent their competitors from becoming the de-facto for anything. Just think of how many diffe

Thanks for the answer, very interesting stuff. I guess my next question is how do you establish that it's actually the group with the "good" reputation, and not just one claiming or pretending to be them?

that's my question: if you were the ransomee, how do you establish that you're working with a "reliable" ransom group? Is there a BBB for ransom groups? If so, how do you establish that the ransom group is actually the g

I see adblockers as another casualty of the end of the ZIRP era. Big Tech was benevolent when the money was free, but now that they have to tighten the waistband all the nice open-sourced add-ons (like 3rd party readers, ad-blockers, etc.)

I've been wondering: the efforts to block AI scrapers many sites have implemented, are they because AI scrapers hit the sites too hard and cause hosting costs to increase, or because of a potential value in licensing of their data (i.e
