Here's a newsflash: nobody, except miners, care about how fast can you hash with a graphic card. I do not buy a card for hashing. The fact that I can run some fixed opencl safely still doesn't say anything about driver quality.

I do not care about games. I work on visualization. Which means I do not care about little performance differences and I do not tout for a specific card or the other. I'd like my stuff to work decently on whatever I encounter. But I d

How does the current AMD driver fare in linux land? Two years ago I was working on a large GL project, and basically the only workable drivers were either intel, or nvidia. With nvidia being far better off pretty much anything, from drive

It reminds me of "rebol". Although rebol never actually had a large market to begin with. Mathematica might have a chance if open-sourced, but it's not the language which is interesting from a technical perspective, but the e

The language in itself is mildly interesting, since it's based on term rewriting. The closest language implementation in open source is "Pure" ( http://purelang.bitbucket.org/ ), which I personally find superio

I'm tired of downvotes without explaination. You don't see a problem with a new automation that when breaks basically brings down your website? Or any problem with letsencrypt basically giving you only <90 days to generate a ce

Am I the only one a bit annoyed by the 90 day expiry limit? Although the reasoning for automation is sound, I don't see how a small expiry limit actually improves security [as stated in one of the reasons] in any way. Especially given

Note that this is likely an issue of PATH_MAX being used, a constant which is often used as the maximum path length when constructing buffers. Different programs might have different limits which are irrespective of the file system itself (

This is a fallacy in all link-agreggator sites: "Post a comment: assume author reads". The author doesn't read unless he's also the poster, or when he gets the chance some days later when the link is already off the fr

Seems like "Tracking protection" should be the default, not an opt-on. Like disabling "beacon.enabled" by default, for instance. If you're using a general purpose blocker (uBlock, uMatrix, PoliceMan, AdBlock, etc, e

Can I ask why, when using FF on Android showing the mobile version of HN, replies appear using different font sizes? Some are tiny, some are actually readable. I have to zoom/unzoom constantly to read just a thread, or switch to the

I think you're conflating too many things in your argument. I'm not against evolution, and there's plenty of good uses for most of the recent browser developments in the last decade. Heck, I love what you can do in interactiv

Is it really that bad? Most of the web is about reading content , and this is where all points on the page shine. I agree with basically everything on that page. In fact, we built fully-fledged browser extensions to override website's

When Mozilla will decide, apple/google style, what is and what is not acceptable as an extension for their browser, people will maybe realize that this is just the tipping point. But maybe that won't be necessary anyway. By adopti

I cannot comment too much myself, since I only tried it for smaller projects, and nowhere near the amount I gave to hg/git/svn/and others. That being said, it's not any different from hg/git in terms of cooperation,

The `tig` blame mode is still vastly superior though. I find blame in magit (and magit-next) unusable, unfortunately.

Not to mention that if the browser was separate from the OS, as it should be, you could just install all of them side-by-side.

In my mind the default git log graph (and most other git UIs) are very poor at rendering the graph itself. Somehow, even a moderately simple repository which has been heavily co-authored will look like garbage; even though there _are_ two d

I don't care so much about the format. I never used epub because nothing I ever used came in epub. I usually get PDFs along with books I buy (which is ironic, but appreciated), but never epub so far. My main complaint is that these rea
