When Mozilla will decide, apple/google style, what is and what is not acceptable as an extension for their browser, people will maybe realize that this is just the tipping point.
But maybe that won't be necessary anyway. By adopting a very limiting standard for extension development and dropping xul (which might be a good idea for other reasons though), there won't be any significant difference between firefox and (say) chrome. A few tweaks in the browser frame won't attract masses of people. Switching from Chrome to Firefox on Android require a pretty big incentive.
Right now, I'm on firefox only for the extensions. I have really no other compelling reasons.
