The privacy implications would keep me from recommending this to others or even trying it out myself.

IRL convos are very different than online ones. If it's not important enough for a call, taking time "out of a busy schedule" to text also requires letting the recipient take time out of their busy schedule to reply. People r

Totally agree that it's very controlling and somewhat selfish to expect quick replies. 30 minutes is just an arbitrary line waiting for a misunderstanding or argument. Face-to-face and phone calls are different. If it's important,

Yep. I do the same with mail. Read receipts are just a privacy intrusion as well.

Issues include: - Privacy/InfoSec - Forgetting to change status - Meaningless status states (Away was never really that accurate or meaningful) - Extra messaging friction I've found that it's usually just a few certain types

It's more than a technical problem. It requires a mindset change. Even if I'm Available, I can still be in the middle of a task and rather respond later - or perhaps think about how I want to respond. Also, by not responding immed

Great post. This resonates with me because too often others expect a quick reply. I have read receipts disabled due to that mentality and won't use a messaging service that uses them without an opt-out option.

I'm not sure about HN's reason, but I've found the Boreal app for iOS to be a great responsive solution for reading HN. The dev's are responsive and their app has me here more often now because of it.

I think the real question is, "Will Spotify nix the new privacy policy?" I wonder how they reached the product decision to roll it out. I deleted the app like many others are doing. Did they really underestimate the backlash?

It's what makes Twitter, well Twitter. I love the 140 char limit because it enforces brevity and aids quick consumption. That's me.

The problem is that Twitter is trying to monetize like most with ad-tech at a time that many are becoming ad adverse. The rise of ad blockers should be a wake up call for such monetization efforts. Twitter is placing ads everywhere now. Aut

Twitter has appeal and reach, but it seriously needs to get it UX in order and focus on being great at simplicity. The official app is a jumbled mess. Instead of trying to be Facebook it needs to be Twitter. I think the advertisers and man

Advertisers really are clueless when it comes to UX and wonder why ad blocking is on the rise. Next stop, auto-play video ads in search and after that, the complete death of online adverts, because by then, most people will be using ad bloc

So many similar stories like this - Amazon sounds like a place without humanity which originates from the highest leadership roles. However, what does this say about those who support and buy from Amazon?

I also love the !bang syntax. I generally find DDG results not only more useful than Google, but presented in a more appealing way. However, I use DDG primarily because it respects user privacy and is not targeting me with pervasive trackin

I have to agree. We're way beyond blocking 3rd party cookies for safety. As long as ad tech continues to be a source of malverts and intrusive UX practices, ad blocking is now a best practice. Companies/publishers/advertisers

At this point, I'm preaching ad block usage to everyone. It's become basic InfoSec now. Everyone needs to be using ad blockers and ignore the trite baloney of harming good websites and taking food from children's mouths. No o

Yeah it's a really simple argument that many choose not to understand. The more ad blocking the better until Advertisers and Publishers come to grasp wit UX. I'm quite tired of the tracking and bandwidth today's ads consume.

Ad tech continues to bury it's head in the sand if it's relying on the "obscurity" of manual AB downloads in iOS 9 as a safety net. AB is already a manual download affair and look at how that's working out for ad te

It's the root of what identifies Twitter and there is value in consuming 140 char tweets. Twitter is not for everyone and shouldn't try to be. That will be its demise though as investors demand that it become more like Facebook an

Recent product changes have led me to use Twitter less. Twitter's official app UX is a mottled mess. I stalk the feed from 3rd part clients for news and product updates, but contribute less of me. Ello now gets my views and posts. I ev

One more reason advertisers and publishers need to stop blaming visitors for rising ad blocking usage. Until they come to grips with security and good UX, their arguments of lost revenue continue to fall on deaf ears.

For me, I drink tea. Sometimes I just need a change in scenery - I'll jump on the bike, explore a different route, treat myself to something special and dig in to whatever project is on my plate. As long as I have WiFi, I'm good.
