Awesome news. I'm kind of scared to think how much Python code is written to assume the GIL though. I have a feeling a lot of libraries and code will have very subtle race conditions and issues, but it's still great to have an o

Are you honestly trying to argue my point is invalid because I said fanless means there is no fan on vs. in the device? Seriously?

Regardless, it's pretty shady especially when they try to spin it as 'another way to say fanless is thin'. No, fanless means there is no fan on a device. I don't see how there can be any gray area here.

Reminds me of the Surface 3 announcement and being told the device is 'fanless' when a giant picture of a fan on the motherboard is shown on the screen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uaOMypr9Po#t=1532

Another good option is installing Linux side-by-side ChromeOS with chrubuntu. I have DOSbox and quite a few other games installed on my Acer chromebook and they run great. No need to worry about someone making a chrome extension or app, j

Awesome, thanks for listening to feedback and implementing this feature. One question though, is there a big uptick in Show HN posts today or is something wrong with the HN RSS feed? Just noticed a full page of Show HN posts on the feed an

Look at the sales of the game industry over time (page 12): http://www.theesa.com/facts/pdfs/esa_ef_2014.pdf It's pretty clear the entire industry is shrinking. I don't know about you but if I ran a ma

So what does Nintendo do when the market for $50 games has evaporated? It's far too late to start looking at mobile and other markets at that point.

Interesting article. I played with making Doom levels back in the day and it wasn't exactly easy. The tools (DEU, DETH, etc.) were generally clunky DOS apps that resembled very simplified CAD programs. Documentation was non-existent

Get a credit card, use it a tiny bit each month, and ALWAYS pay it off each month. Just having a card and not using it won't help much, but using it too much (i.e. holding a balance) will also not help. Realize though that you will a

2600 has been in print for almost 30 years, longer than probably most HN readers have been alive I would wager. You can get it on Kindle these days too, IIRC it's only a buck a month (but still published quarterly).

Very cool story. Can you imagine how fun an Army hackathon might be? 'We've hooked up this Missile Command arcade game to a Patriot missile battery. Now you shoot down enemy targets with a track ball!'

That's awesome, I'm glad to hear there are still folks playing Descent. Truly an underrated multiplayer game. I loved playing it on IPX over TCP with a modem way back in the day.

Automatic unlock of your computer when your phone is near seems like the kind of feature that sounds great on paper but is a nightmare in practice. What happens when someone picks up my phone and walks near my laptop, they suddenly have ac

Is anyone else kind of creeped out by the presentation style? I can't really put my finger on why but everything comes across very wooden and out of touch with normal people.

I'm really curious why we haven't seen a datacenter with a nuclear reactor as power source. Presumably the regulatory hurdles and costs are very high, but it seems like a great long term way to cleanly power a ton of servers. Ma
