Yeah, this sounds like a great recipe for a stable economic system and orderly transition to steadier demographics over the next 20-50 years. Edit: An informative graph for the bleak jobs picture for young people this shift is creating in t

The thing is we don't have less people right now. The population is still growing rapidly, just getting older overall. That is going to lead to a massive grab for limited resources(not just physical like food and basic goods, but time

Demographic shifts like this and the ensuing competition for limited resources are the kind of things that fuel major wars. It may be the transition that is needed long-term, but we should be very mindful of the way it is actually achieved.

You are correct that the Powerwall isn't doing that well currently. The Powerwall is the home product, and its usefulness is directly tied to solar panels. The tie-in with SolarCity there should help with demand. There is the other sid

SolarCity's immediate cash flow looks a lot better when you take away sale and customer acquisition costs, in fact it brings them very close to profitability. It is widely expected that the merger will close that side and bring it clos

I replied to snark with snark. Tesla is not just a car company. They are going to be the largest li-ion battery manufacturer, distributed energy provider(with the solarcity acquisition), energy storage provider, supply grid stabilization se

Obviously there are a lot of other companies trying to do the same thing. And none of those companies will be able to compete with Tesla's pricing on the battery side as soon as the Gigafactory is fully online. They will be producing a

On top of all that, there's the whole autonomous car thing that is going to completely shake up a lot of industries and hopefully produce massive profits as well. I don't think Tesla is poised to take as large of the pie here as s

Not just an in-home grid, but the potential with the power packs and utility-scale solar for the grid as a whole is quite large as well, if they can get traction. Tesla is going to be the only one for quite a while with the battery manufact

I'm a Tesla investor, and I started increasing my position when the SolarCity deal was first talked about. The potential there with SolarCity's new panels and Tesla's advantage in battery pack manufacture is pretty big, and t

You're right, Tesla should just pack it in right now. They have no competitive advantage or product that anyone wants, and Nissan has far better prospects than Tesla ever had.

I don't have a problem with people trying to understand the quarter-by-quarter performance of a company. That data is legally required to be published by the SEC for a reason. In Tesla's case, so much of their value is discounted

Right, investors won't bat an eye at Instagram, Whatsapp, Airbnb, or Pintrest valuations, but can't possibly see how Tesla is worth $30b. I suppose that is slightly unfair since I happen to think Tesla is fairly well valued, maybe

When you trade derivatives like this, your main risk is counterparty risk. Deribit, with things like this and the documentation used to describe their futures and options offerings, does not inspire trust in them as a counterparty.
