That's true about Django apps, but this post doesn't describe a Django app. It describes a Django project.

Agreed! It saves a trip to the man page. Something else I figured out recently is that if you put the pipe at the end of a line, you don't need a backslash: echo thing | grep thing

I'm a huge fan of icon fonts, but I have a nit to pick with the HTML they chose. <span class="icon-sm icon-org"/> That is not valid HTML. The <span> element is not a self-closing tag, so the slash is essentially ign

The key takeaway: > New stacking contexts can be formed [… w]hen an element has an > opacity value less than 1. I had no idea that was the case. The CSS 2.1 spec [1] notes that "other properties may introduce stacking cont

I linked to the HTML spec because it explains that the slash only means something for void or foreign elements. The <div> element is neither, so the slash is either interpreted as an attribute or ignored. You are correct, both in th

The HTML5 spec [1] covers this nicely: "[I]f the element is one of the void elements, or if the element is a foreign element, then there may be a single U+002F SOLIDUS character (/). This character has no effect on void elements, but on for

The section about iOS home screen icons has an error. Retina iPad icons are 144 pixels square, not 114. I wrote a blog post [1] that covers that. Also, I'd recommend using ConvertICO [2] instead of the X-Icon Editor. It generates much small

This TLD messes up HN's title: "top-level domain representing the Occupied Palestinian Territory | Hacker News .فلسطين" I assume this is because Arabic is right-to-left, but it's interesting that only the title is affected. Edit: This affec

There's no provision for escaping things inside an <xmp> tag. From the HTML 2.0 spec: "no markup except the end-tag […] is recognized" http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/html-spec/html-spec_5.html#SEC5.5.2...

I'm not sure what you mean by this. mrpollo recommended using MD5 as a checksum before executing jQuery to ensure that the CDN hasn't been compromised. For instance jQuery 1.8.0's checksum is cd8b0bffc85bb5614385ee4ce3596d07. I was under th

I hadn't heard of the <xmp> tag before now. His reasoning ("so that users don't have to escape special HTML characters") seems to be correct, except that it's a deprecated tag ( http://stackoverflow.com/q/4545 ). Perhaps he used a &
