Wow, that’s really interesting! I always suspected bit flips happened undetected way more than we thought, so it’s great to get some real life war stories about it. Also thanks for Guild Wars, many happy hours spent in GW2. :)

The worst thing that could happen is that you get caught in some government dragnet based on your historical viewing data and get disappeared because (as is the nature of dragnet searches) no matter how innocent you are you still look guilt

Agree that the post comes across as rude in tone, but it’s never explicitly disparaging. Might just be an overly direct tone (non-native English speaker, or maybe on the spectrum?)

A prerequisite for completing basically any task is to not be destroyed before you complete the task. This seems obvious to me.

Unfortunately this insane perspective is common. I’ve literally been told by a past employer that the revenue that I, personally, was bringing in to the company (by going way above and beyond) was greatly appreciated, but that they were unh

It’s good to know that it does at least perform about as well as current conventional batteries. The energy density and cycle life were the really off-the-wall claims. It’s exciting to hear that they’re continuing to test, can’t wait for mo

Tbh the exciting part isn’t so much the composition but whether it can actually meet the claimed performance. It could be made of wet gym socks for all I care if it can do 100k charge cycles at 90degC with comparable energy density and spec

You really don't want to succeed in faking it out, though. Not because it'll microwave you, but because part of the safety mechanism is a fuse that blows if the door is open while the magnetron is on.

I know it's silly, but I always used to open the microwave door to stop it, and since reading that story, these days I always stop the microwave with the 'stop' button before opening the door. Just in case. :)

How did you vet the quality of the documentation? I have no doubt that an LLM could produce a great deal of plausible-sounding documentation in short order. Even assuming you’re already completely familiar with the code base, reading throug

Binary formats (that you can just fopen(), fseek(), fread() etc.) are generally super platform dependent. You can read in an array of bytes and then manually deserialise it (and I’ve done this, for sure!) but that’s basically one step away

Turns out if you design a forum where a high effort, high quality post can be devalued by a low effort response, you discourage high effort, high quality posters.

The issue is that when you slow down, you’re (a) creating ‘turbulence’ in the traffic flow with increased speed differential between cars and increased lane changes, which increases accident risk for everybody, and (b) it’s not even solving
