I enjoyed this as well, and I know absolutely nothing about the field. I think that's why the writing is so enjoyable, I understood the conversation without understanding most of the details. I for one would greatly enjoy more such writing

I concur with the the majority - I smelled something fishy the second I saw design elements in the HTML. Structure and style are separate for a reason. Now the question is, can we redirect the enthusiasm the author has for this workflow? Is

Indeed. I'm quite envious of this type of lifestyle. Although I'd take a thinkpad or an air over the dell. My overall setup is quite similar. Xmonad & redshift are great tools for minimizing distraction over long periods of time. You ca

To me it's simply a matter of perspective. Personally, while I haven't used a Surface, I already know my opinions will fall precisely in line with Marco's. No one is right or wrong in this argument, all that matters in the end is which side

I think you really nailed it - MS may have solved their benchmark/compatibility problem, but does 10 solve the UX problem?

I am forever indebted to Amazon. Without my Kindle, my fortune of being born in the digital age may have prevented me from recognizing the value in buying a printed book. Furthermore, I was able to ebay it for cost (plus shipping!) thereby

Here here. The only vim-related thing new users need to know about is vimtutor. These tools are designed to be complex so as to not limit the user. If you throw everything at them at once there's no way to understand how everything fits tog

I used the Source family briefly. It's quite nice, although there was something I didn't quite like about it. I replaced it with the Nimbus L family, which is very similar but seems easier to read to my eyes. (on X11, anyway. doesn't look q

Vimium in fact heralded the downfall of Chrome for me. At first, I loved it. Finally, I thought, no more context switch between browser and editor! Then I realized due to Chrome's design, when a page doesn't load and an internal error page

It's something I read when I was getting started with mutt. Perhaps is much less of a deal than I thought, after giving a cursory Google I can't seem to find what I read that gave me that impression and I don't see any major warnings not to

Great idea, thanks! I've dealt with this by switching ctrl and alt - I find hitting alt with my thumb is far less strenuous than reaching for ctrl with my pinky. I may give xcape a shot, however.

Don't forget to launch any secondary instances of mutt with -R, or you'll encounter conflicts. I've been searching for the right way to launch the editor in a new tmux pane, although apparently getting that to work smoothly would take a pat

My tools of choice for over two years now. I've had a very similar experience, xmonad is simply the most stable (read: consistent) window manger I've used. At work I need to use a mac, however, and SizeUp has been good to me. Can't wait to

Bad phrasing on my part - I mean to say that I don't know of any similar way to configure a private Mac app store. I feel like the concept could be a great way to manage distribution.

Thanks for the info. The bit about enterprise-specific stores is new to me, and sounds like a damn good idea. Working with Apple and therefore being forced to go through the public store for everything creates more problems than it solves.

I agree wholeheartedly, oh-my-zsh is usually recommended to beginners with zsh, but I've always found that to be a mistake. If you don't understand what zsh can do, how do you expect to take advantage of a highly specialized pre-configurati
