I thought maybe there was a new version or something. How has the spec for a perfectly common technology which has been stable for several years got this many upvotes?

This +1000. The guardian, a paper I used to buy regularly, has transformed itself comprehensively into a hell of lazy ill informed clickbait, uncritically repeating unsupported conclusions from nonsense science and refusing to differentiate

Treat yourself and switch to never going there for the indifferent to poor quality of the content. Whenever I hit the adwall I'm just grateful for the reminder that I don't have to waste my time on that

Seems phenomenally improbable. It would basically require a ground-up rewrite of the entire app layer of Java just so that lazy iOS developers can do an even more half assed job of porting their apps over.

Fish fingers are nutritionally pretty good - low calorie, high protein, and freezing is a good way to preserve food without adding things you have to ask questions about. The cheaper ones also tend to use more sustainable fish, and mechanic

Sorry, I've just realised from other responses that what is being proposed is just dedicated bus lanes. These are very much a given in the UK, so I'm always surprised that they are seen as new development in the US

Guided busways are in no way comparable to light rail. In practice they are much less comfortable that unguided buses - all the same design issues as before but with huge levels of judder. I would avoid any route which used these for more t

Weird that the headline and most of the story are completely at odds with the court decision they describe. Literally all the court seems to have said is that you have to make a decision about providing seats at cash desks on the basis of t

The Scott Trust isn't exactly a large endowment that can provide the news using the returns from investments. It's an independent ownership model which has enough cash reserves to cushion the Guardian for a while why they get back

In the first week this is just an ultra paranoid reaction. The comments about corporate ownership in view of the guardian being owned by an independent trust, and about them destroying the wikileaks info indicate that the author is either p

My experience is more as a roadblock than as somebody getting code live (although I have been held up by my own cursed rules a couple of times). I'd have to say that I really appreciate the calendar approach - it gives me a time slot t

I don't recall internet without the "the" being used by anybody in the UK in the early 90s. One confounding factor is that news articles were almost 100% written by people who had no knowledge or experience of the topic, and

Much as I hate the rockstar and ninja tags, this article itself is pretty arrogant. It makes some fairly unfounded assumptions about other professions like librarianship, while really doing them down a bit.

The reason sites do gamelike features like this is because it makes some people care and therefore participate more. Setting a metric which causes poor quality contributions or is damaging to participants is a bad thing. I'd guess a st
