I don't believe Nix is Turing complete, unless you include ability of running python or bash script. Regarding the rest of your first paragraph, that's essentially what I said, you can write side effect free code in python, but i

Strange that there was no output or even errors. BTW: I believe NixOS image generation can be run only on NixOS machine, because it needs to run a VM and that requires some kernel modules to be loaded. At least I never was able to made it w

The ballot also has an unique ID, perhaps is not tied to your name, but there is nothing that would prevent that. The ID is known when it is marked to you.

In Los Angeles at least, mail in voting aren't truly anonymous. Your ID is in the ballot and you have to provide your signature when mailing it, which is then verified with the records. So I have to trust that the ID is only used for v

I can't speak about other states, but in California (particularly Los Angeles) to get ballot in mail you need to request it (there's an option to request permanent vote by mail, but still most people don't do that, I suppose

I don't understand why "vote harvesting" has to do with it. My understanding is that the delay is because of mail in voting. Because the votes were cast by mail, they arrive even after the election. The people who use mail in

Antifa doesn't really have leadership, it doesn't even have set of rules to follow. There are even disagreements between people regarding their approach. It is just bunch of smaller groups that use the term to identify themselves.

Hmm frankly I did not use nixos-generator before writing this post, and only generated EC2 images. But I just tried, and it did work for me. The generated image was provided as the last line of the output. It looked like this: Making

Looking at the code, I don't see any advantage of using imperative language here. All the conditions used there are already available and don't change during the execution of that code. So the conditionals would be nearly identica

Because Nix is a language there are many ways of accomplishing the same thing. Some ways are easier, some require more work. For example if you make a derivation in your home, it is easy to install it with nix-env from there, and you are do

There is quite a bit of latency added whenever you use a containers. IMO containers are greatest for stateless apps that don't require much resources, but having a dedicated machine for them is a waste.
