The fallback is just stupid. Make it a hard fail in that case, as you pointed out it is a very uncommon scenario. If you really, really want to have fallback, why not have list of root DNS servers and have the resolver do recursive query. I

As someone who was in ops, I really disagree with MySQL in that category. Saw it multiple times at multiple jobs just break on its own. Most memorable one was a bug where certain pattern of data caused mysql think data is encrypted, crash a

Actually I'm looking forward to it, it would increase pressure to care about privacy or at very least help competition to grow.

I agree with you that Reddit basically overlaps this area, but I don't think access to Usenet is easy these days (ignoring paid services that are optimized for downloading files). Although if anyone knows good servers (ISPs no longer s

My understanding was that s/he was referring to the new UI. Actually Reddit makes it hard to be on the old interface, I have to use browser extension to completely avoid the new UI.

The difference between Uber and ISP is that in addition to penalizing for illegal activity they will surely rip all the infrastructure built. I would imagine that if you would run fiber to the nearest POP they probably wouldn't mind co

Well, if the rest of the system treats the spare file as regular file[1], then it doesn't matter it is sparse, the space still can't be used. [1] for example someone there mentioned that Apple Software Update app refuses to update

No, they already were doing that by using color to make the other parts less prominent. There is no good explanation to to this change than making people rely more on Google search.
