Alexander Solzhenitsyn believed he cured himself of cancer by following the instructions of a shaman. He then wrote of his experience in “Cancer Ward” Years later a Solzhenitsyn fan who worked for the NIH recreated the shaman’s recipe and l

It follows from basic math that, if I dislike Feinstein the most, I dislike the other 99 senators less. However, it doesn't follow from: “Feinstein is the senator I dislike the most” That I don’t mind the other 99, or any subset thereo

Good point about CA’s primaries, I forgot about that quirk. But that only makes her permanence worse. By 2024 she might not be alive or too tiered, she’s not young, but she’s not in danger. Shes been senator since 1992! My SV comment is not

I don't understand how people can accuse Joe Rogan to be a shock jock. I don't listen to him because he is sooo mellow . Howard Stern is a shock jock, and a crass one too.

Because everyone has heard of most the US’ states, but most people wouldn't have a clue where South Tyrol, or Chubut are. Also, in IT or CS, a state like TX or CA are more prominent than any European one. CA is probably more important

All US homes have 220V at the breaker [1]. That doesnt mean its available anywhere else in the home since the only appliance that is necessarily 220V is AC (dryers, ovens, all come in gas) and the AC is typically hardwired. You also have a

It cost me $400 to have an electrician instal a 220V NEMA plug in my home. Granted, it was an easy instal - unfinished, small basement giving easy access to the kitchen and 20 feet of 50 A cable.

220 V is already in RMS [1] so its just 220V * 16 A = 3.5kW (current is also rms) Of course, thats truly only correct for a resistive load (but, without knowing much about induction stoves, its probably within 10% - modern power electronics

If landlines in the US still supported fax, I’d get a landline (my printer has a fax). I want a landline anyway, but fax is the killer feature. Every year or so there is something that is just easiest or fastest to submit via fax, the alter
