I wasn't sure if it was thoughts or opinions, or an attempt to make this feel more personally relevant to readers. It did, in any case, jump out at me when I read it.

When I was a consultant, I could not find a health insurance plan that was even vaguely the equal of my current job's health insurance. Not too expensive, but simply not offered. That's not to say that job insurance is automatical

Reading between the lines slightly, it sounds like this affects TVs running Roku software for inbuilt "smarts" rather than the media players themselves. Still not great, of course.

Some of this relates to being able to pay staff; there are some house-museums about, but they tend to collapse all too readily as it turns out it's mostly someone's passion project -- just like this, but at a smaller scale.

Keep, beyond legal requirements, for something as loose as Slack seems unusual to me. Having worked for some very large companies they tend to be very worried about purging email, Slack, etc., within months, before there's a chance for

I'm actually surprised Slack isn't actively harvesting unused free instances, to be honest. I know of at least one group that would create a free instance per-event that would then sit idle after (presumably to avoid having to dea

Cars from the 50s and 60s were comparatively less complex and easier to maintain and repair. Of course, they don't get the gas mileage or meet the same emissions criteria, and in a crash they aren't as survivable because they don&

That's just normal updates; I've never had issues doing that. That said, in-place updates to a whole new release has been fraught across every distribution I've tried it on, whether Debian-derived, RedHat-derived, or even a f

Since I read the journal anecdote jetrink shared elsewhere in the thread before this, my first thought is "has security vulnerabilites that are classified." In any case, it's not the known vulnerabilities you need to worry ab

Got busy yesterday, but I see no one pointed out they already replaced AOSP on the Echo Show: https://9to5google.com/2023/11/14/amazon-android-echo-show-r... -- and it no longer supports Netflix.

The fact they're ending this makes me wonder if the rumors of Amazon fully abandoning AOSP as the basis for FireOS are true. If so, it would be ending it because there won't be an appstore with updated apps before long.

Group owners had to import; it was not all preserved. There was some effort done with public groups by the ArchiveTeam, but I know they didn't get everything as there was no good way to find all groups.

I took Tai Chi during college from a guy with a passion for it (his day job was as a sign painter and he was a pretty firm Christian), with no mystical overtones to his interest at all. The one thing he drove home, repeatedly, was that if y

From my observations, people's innate ability to relate a map to the world varies. There are some studies attempting to tie this to gender, but my experience is that is not a hard line at all. I'm sure training is a component, of

Less about carbon footprint and more about fuel costs, IIRC; passengers are generally more cost-sensitive than time-sensitive, so if a plane can only hit mach 0.8 (or even worse) but has better fuel economy at the relevant speeds, that'

I was looking into water heaters that use heat pumps recently, and a lot of them function by sucking heat out of the room. While water and computers don't mix, might be an even better use for all that waste heat...

Less about mere "dry drunks" -- which refers to someone who is sober but still stuck in the behavioral traps that led to drinking -- and more about the medical support required for abrupt detoxing from alcohol.
