Reduce it enough, and Wolfram Alpha generates a visual representation of a plane. But this is also a puzzle - I think the key isn't getting an equation out of it, it is figuring out where they want us to apply said equation.

Let's be clear - the article is about raising a kid with the skills and capabilities of an entrepreneur. But be wary of targeting your child's future career path. That is a very dangerous game to play, as your kids need to be free to make t

Ok, but that sure sounds like a design flaw. I would have expected that they would still have an option to push the new products live at the time of their choosing vs. disabling online purchases of their existing products. I would think an

There are two completely different conclusions that I would draw from his facts: 1) Most bugs are in code. But it might not be your code. Your code layers itself on top of many other layers of code that are outside of your control. Learning

There is an underlying demographic issue here. Startups tend to cater to people who have already made a lifestyle choice to embrace pervasive technology in their lives. I am likely an outlier on HN, in that I consciously do not use technolo

As a web programmer with a degree in Fine Arts... YES. They do. When you really get down to it, the web is about using visual media to communicate ideas. So is Art. Likewise, both disciplines have a heavy technical component. Both have mixe

As someone who has been a teacher and trainer of various kinds, removing your own bias from your teaching does not come naturally or easily. So I think the points made (while exaggerated) have at least a kernel of validity. However, ranting

This isn't the first anti-college discussion to come up recently... not even the first in the last 24 hours. What it boils down to for me is that SOME colleges are not helping their students. People are using this partial failure, and extra

But most .NET apps that I see have stuck to the best practice of splitting the presentation layer from your other layers. Re-coding just the UI into HTML5 could very well become a standard, especially if it enables apps to easily move to mo

My biggest problem with recruiters comes to my SharePoint skills. I get a ton of calls, but they don't seem to understand, "No, I don't want a SharePoint job. I dislike it intensely."

You misunderstand. I don't care whether or not there is an outage. I care that people are professional in their work. Passing the buck is unprofessional. Accepting the responsibility is what matters, and if they decide not to fix it, then s

This has always bugged me - as owner of a product, YOU are ultimately responsible for its availability. If you chose a bad service provider, sure, you'll have outages. But accept accountability, say you are working on it, and fix it.

True, that is one of my concerns. My mitigation of that risk is that one of the walls (to the left of the monitors) is nothing but cloth - in an emergency, I just pull the staples out and walk right out.

Marketing surely takes advantage of it, but I think this has more to do with the addictive, yet passive nature of TV, where we let it push images into our brains. My favorite example (for which I've already given away the punchline) is the
