It’s sad how far behind health science is. Why don’t we have devices constantly monitoring us for health problems? Why can’t I easily browse through the data that doctors have on me, and transfer it between doctors? Why do I have to prep an

I don’t really understand the praise for VLC. I might be wrong here but isn’t it basically a GUI around FFMPEG? While VLC is great at playing anything you throw at it, that’s pretty much all due to the hard work of FFMPEG devs. The parts th

You know who else makes things that people want to buy? Toyota, VW, Honda, Ford, GM, BMW, Mercedes. Tesla is worth more than all of those combined.

Never understood this company. Lenovo and Dell sell computers with Ubuntu or Fedora pre-installed, that have been tested and are guaranteed to be fully compatible with Linux. Why would you go with System76, which is selling rebranded Clevo

I acknowledge that electric cars are objectively superior. But subjectively I can’t get excited about one. I want a great sounding exhaust. I want a great feeling manual transmission. Cars for me are more about feeling, heritage, and excite

I always find it weird that people who have enough money to spend $40k (minimum) on a Tesla care so much about saving $80/mo.

Most Linux software is written by Red Hat. GNOME, Wayland, and systemd are all Red Hat projects. They are even a major contributor to the kernel itself.

It doesn’t matter that Ubuntu packages originally came from Debian. At the end of the day, Canonical employees are being paid to make sure they are up to date. I trust that over a bunch of volunteers who do it out of the goodness of their h

I would not trust the community of volunteers that maintain Gentoo in their free time for anything mission critical. I would use Ubuntu or Red Hat, which are backed by companies.

Maybe a better idea would be something like the HTTP Accept header for the shell, where the user can set it once and any supporting application will respond in that format.

You can’t just dismiss it as “oh these guys are emotionally immature”. The average woman on dating sites gets hundreds of messages, and the average guy gets tens. That is a MASSIVE imbalance in favor of women. It’s not hard to imagine that

It’s unsustainable to expect package maintainers to create packages and backport security fixes for every piece of software in existence, and big ecosystems like Node.js make this blindingly obvious. Developers should be able to just ship s

I disagree that there isn’t much demand for healthy food services. I think the real problem is that healthy food just doesn’t have as high of profit margins as unhealthy food. A satisfying healthy meal will be primarily meat based, which i

Isn’t it strange how the only way to eat healthy food in America is to cook it yourself? Every fast food restaurant is unhealthy. Most sit down restaurants are unhealthy. I can pay someone to change my oil, I can pay someone to cut my grass
