You live in a bubble. 95% of the American public would hear that their son “got a job at Facebook” and think he made it. 95% of companies hiring developers would see “worked at Facebook” and move that resume to the top of the pile.

Huh I don’t know. Maybe the $200k salary for entry level developers is exciting? Or maybe it’s the ability to work on a product that is a household name for billions of people?

Way to miss the point. Cleaning dishes takes time. Going to the grocery takes time. That’s why people go to Chipotle.

That’s not remotely true at all. a) Walk into Chipotle, walk out. $10, 10 minutes. b) Prepare a list of ingredients. Go to the grocery store. Find and select those ingredients. Go home. Cook and prepare ingredients. Clean dishes and cookwar

Isn’t WSL2 just a VM? No more special kernel subsystem trickery? In that case it should be almost exactly the same as the macOS version of Docker.

So tired of reading about people using hardware that isn’t supported by Linux and then acting surprised when it doesn’t work. You never hear anyone install macOS on a Dell and wonder why it isn’t working. So why are you doing this for Linux

I would say for any piece of software, if the vendor themselves provide a package for your distro, use that, not the distro version. In fact I’ll go a step further and say Windows and macOS got this right, in that third party developers sho

I have a feeling they are going to switch RHEL to the same model that Ubuntu follows, where it’s free to download and use, with no license to worry about or anything, and then there’s an optional support contract you can add to it if you wa

Debian is exactly like CentOS - community driven. The exact same thing could happen there. If you want guaranteed updates backed by a contract, choose Ubuntu or RHEL.

You’re conflating “free software” with “community support”. It’s possible to run free software with a paid support contract backed by a corporation - thats what RHEL offers, and Ubuntu with their Ubuntu Advantage program. CentOS offered fre
