Given the dozens of ships anchored in the bay, I'm not sure Oakland has spare capacity either.

I remember in college back then taking a dremel to the side of my steel PC case to cut out a hole for a plexiglass window. Lit up the internals with a blue CCFL. Pretty weird the effort that went into stuff like that. I made fun of people w

Personal anecdote - my house has two sets of solar panels on the roof - the first was installed in 2017, the second was just installed last month. In 2017 my 6kw system cost $24,000 before any incentives (by SolarCity). In 2020 my 7.8kw sys

I have a set in my California home made by Miele. I think they're becoming more common. Bosch also makes them, but I found the Miele's to be more efficient - so much so that they run on a standard 110v outlet instead of 220. Highl

Also keep in mind that California now requires solar panels on all new home construction. The supply of renewable power in the state is expanding rapidly - our sources for power are not static.

Connect it to your network but block it's network access. Then it's "connected" but the connections fail. That said, I haven't seen any evidence of smart TV's autonomously connecting to open hot spots without p

I've got a synology NAS with at least 10TB spare capacity I could donate... If only there were a way to use it, and thousands more, to back up important projects like this in a decentralized way.

I know the space shuttle employed multiple redundant computers of differing hardware as failsafes. I can't imagine SpaceX didn't do the same thing.

We don’t need developers to pay for infrastructure - we have owners of the new building paying property taxes. That’s what funds city infrastructure. Prop 13 is what limits those revenues, it shouldn’t be on the developers back.

Those are some of the slowest cars on the road today, that sacrifice everything for fuel efficiency. Is that the bar for an EV? We can't do better than that?

For those defending this decision as rational, are you aware the expected 0-60 time is 9 seconds? That's not just a little slower for comfort. That's pitiful for any car. I am not sure I've ever owned a car that slow. For com

Ehrlichs house isn't an Eichler - Eichler refer to houses made by a specific developer who built mid-century modern neighborhoods around California. They're a sub-set of mid century architecture.

Being in the business of selling power, I would think they're losing money when the power is off. They've got power plants idling and nobody racking up kwh's. I guess the calculus is that the lost revenue is less than the lia
