Well to be fair, there's some effort in setting up the RasPi to begin with - flashing a memory card and installing the linux os flavor (which one?), etc. There's a lot of steps. I'm a total newbie and figured it out, but didn

Tesla will be fine, for several reasons: 1. They're way ahead of everyone else in terms of energy efficiency. Compare a Model S or X to the Jaguar iPace or Audi e-tron - the Tesla gets 30-50% more range out of the same size battery. Th

Anyone know details about how the solar panels resulted in fires?

If I were a researcher and wanted to study this issue, I'd look at people who work in churches. Many churches with tall steeples lease space in them to wireless network providers, and those who work in churches are working under these

I had this feature on my old 2007 Audi A6, which replaced the moon roof with a solar sun roof, which powered a fresh air fan when parked in the sun. I purchased it off-lease, and it was pretty much maxed out on features. I never saw another

Agreed. So many little details were watered down. Concept was amazing, production seems like such a missed opportunity.

Have you actually been to Oakland? There are a lot of homeless people here for a variety of reasons. One of those reasons is that the 'progressives' you call out aren't making homelessness illegal. They aren't making law

Are you talking about oakland specifically or American cities generally? I don't really think this applies to oakland, which was built out 50-100 years ago and has almost no new roads in the last several decades. Maintenance was deferr

More than 0, hopefully less than will be offset. But I think part of why you were accused of short term thinking here is that if we don't spend the carbon to build things like solar panels now, we'll never move off a carbon econom

Either way you're reducing carbon emissions, which is good. Ideally you do both! It doesn't matter how many solar panels you have - if you're driving an ICE car you're always emitting carbon.

Separate thought related to this-- I've personally made the following investments to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide I'm directly emitting -- and these are the sorts of things we'll need millions of people to do in the co

I see what you're saying, but I'm not sure it's analogous. Lets say the cost of gasoline triples in the next 5 years because we're killing all subsidies, ending federal leases, etc., enough to justify everyone to make in

These are all good ideas, but the ferocity of change worries me. And I'm the sort of person who thinks climate change is the single biggest policy issue facing our country (and all the other countries) and and spending big $ personally

The SFH has domain over their property - and that's where it should reasonably end. Giving them domain over what gets built on everyone else's property is where we get into trouble.

Great! I used a service like this many years ago and they shut down after a few years. Have been looking for the same thing for years but seems like nobody's been doing it, or at least not in a user friendly way. Will give this a try.

Well I think when it's part of a main house there's probably a middle ground. I've got a separate exterior entry, building out a full kitchen, bathroom, etc. Not trying to just rent a room. But I think we'd do well to fi

It's actually the other way around. The junk mail is paying for your mailman to come by every day. The $.50 for a stamp doesn't cover the cost of delivering a letter.
